DUTIES:

The Human Resources Assistant performs clerical and administrative work in support of the Midwest Region Human Resources (HR) Team. Duties performed include:

Processes and tracks a full range of personnel actions. Identifies and resolves processing problems.

Processes a variety of forms and actions for various purposes which include security investigations, payroll deductions, pay adjustments, corrections to time and attendance, and insurance.

Answers employees’ questions and provides information on HR related activities, such as benefits, leave, hours of duty, and pay processing.

Inputs vacancy announcements into automated recruiting system.

Performs qualification analysis for a variety of lower graded clerical, technical, and administrative positions.

Independently and as assigned prepares regular and special reports relating to HR activities.

Establishes and maintains all types of HR files and records.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including the following specialized experience and/or education, as identified by the grade level.
For GS-05: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04; or its non-Federal equivalent that demonstrates: experience in a Human Resources (HR) office that includes the maintenance, filing, and distribution of HR records and files; and entering information into an automated personnel system OR bachelors or equivalent degree or 4 full years of progressively higher level education leading to such a degree. Equivalent combination of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level.
For GS-06: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05; or its non-Federal equivalent that demonstrates: experience in a HR office processing personnel actions (such as appointments/new hires, promotions, separations, etc.); and providing explanations to employees regarding benefits, pay issues, or other HR functions. There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-06 level.
For GS-07: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06; or its non-Federal equivalent that demonstrates: experience in a HR office processing, tracking, and problem resolution for a wide variety of personnel actions for various types of appointments (career-conditional, term, temporary and excepted); posting job vacancy announcements in an automated system; and providing a wide range of information with respect to employee benefit programs such as health benefits, life insurance, and retirement. There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-07 level.
