The PlayStation Experience is an annual event hosted by Sony. On December 3, 2016 Sony revealed some exciting news about what we’ll see over the next few months, and beyond.
Early on in the event, Sony announced that another Yakuza game will be coming next year, which is a remake of the original, but also that a brand new addition to the series, Yakuza 6, will follow in 2018. In the Yakuza series you control Kazuma Kiryu as you walk around town and beat up various foes to gain prizes and experience.
One unveiling that has everyone hyped is Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Uncharted fans were excited to see the 10-minute trailer. It was first called a DLC, but Naughty Dogs insist it has its own rights. This game, like another Naughty Dogs release, will focus more on the female characters the game has to offer and less on Drake alone.
Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite was announced for a release in 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Marvel is back and booming! To celebrate, they have made Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the 2011 game, available for download early on PS4, followed by Xbox One and PC next Spring. This crossover series has received so much attention over the years and has been spread across more platforms than almost any other franchise. The diversity of it gives Marvel vs. Capcom a large audience and many awaiting players for Infinite.
Kojima Productions and Guerrilla Games will band together for the open world game featuring everyone’s favorite zombie hunter, Norman Reedus. Death Stranding
Knack 2 is said to get the acclamations that Knack lacked. The developers are hoping to make up for their butt-of-many-jokes 2013 game and come back with one for the top of the charts and cease all laughter. Still, many viewers are telling us not to get our hopes up.
Let it Die is a free-to-play game that is set to be released…yesterday. This crazy, hack and slash action game with diverse characters not created for small children is a great way to bide your time until next year when Sony’s new games will be released. Another one to do this with is Laura Croft GO, which also made its way over to PS4 and Vita this weekend.
Nostalgia caused Sony to release an updated version of Wipeout, and get this…Crash Bandicoot! That’s right; Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy is a remake of one of our favorite PlayStation classics. It’s been twenty years since the initial release of the first game in this franchise and we’re excited to explore the Wumpa Islands and defeat Doctor Neo Cortex yet again in this remastered version of an old-time favorite.
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, is said to be as amazing as the previous one, with just as much to explore as a classic-style RPG should, and a great story. Although Studio Ghibli will not be contributing to the production, we can still expect great things from this beautiful anime-style RPG.
Gran Turismo welcomes another to the family when Gran Turismo Sport is released next year. After fifteen games, this racing franchise is still kicking and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. As one of the top racing series of all time, stretching across all types of gamers, from casual to the pros, I sure wouldn’t either.
Probably the most highly-anticipated and most talked about announcement was the new Last of Us, a sequel to the much loved apocalyptic game by Naughty Dogs. The Last of Us: Part 2 will let us spend a lot more time playing Ellie than the first, which focused on Joel, and is said to be complementary to the first game and the developers promise they will do us right. I suggest those of you who haven’t played the first one to get it and do a run through before diving into this sequel whose release date is still unknown.
That wraps it up for new games, but Sony also discussed a few events and updates coming soon:
Destiny announced an event coming for a few weeks from mid-December through January 3. The Dawning brings back much of the Sparrow features, including the Sparrow Racing League. Along with it we will see new quests, bounties, ornaments, consumables, emblems, emotes, and more we have yet to hear about.
Long time RE fans are thrilled to see there is a “massive” demo for Resident Evil 7 now available. For those who can’t wait till January this is sure to fill your time.
Capcom notes that Akuma is coming to Street Fighter 5 this week.
The classic Windjammers, as well as the new Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, is coming to PS4 and Vita in 2017.
Nier Automata revealed new limited and upgraded editions of the awaited game as well as a demo soon to be available for PS4.
