There are plenty of PlayStation 4 games coming in 2014. Lots of indie titles, big franchises with their annual releases, platform exclusives, and more. We’ve rounded up ten of our most anticipated PlayStation 4 games of 2014.
While there are still games out there with a rumored 2014 release date, we’ve decided to include games that have been confirmed for a 2014 release. Read on for our list of Top 10 PlayStation 4 games to look forward to in 2014, and let us know what games you are looking forward to in the comments section!
10: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
So far the press around Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes hasn’t been that good. This is mainly due to the singleplayer campaign being only two hours long. But as we learned last month, MGS5 will retail only for $30, which makes it a lot easier on our wallets. And even if it’s only two hours, it’s hard not to be excited about a new Metal Gear Solid game. Release date: March 2014.
9: The Evil Within
Ever since Resident Evil become a by-the-numbers shooter, there has been a big void to fill in the survival horror genre. From what we’ve seen so far with The Evil Within, it’s a survival horror game to the bone — it’s even made by a Japanese developer. If there’s anyone who knows how to create creepy survival horror games, it’s the Japanese. Even the game’s Japanese title is cooler: Psychobreak. Check out a full 11 minutes of The Evil within gameplay to see what we’re talking about. Release date: August 2014.
8: Final Fantasy XV
When Final Fantasy XV is released this Fall, it will have officially been in development for 8 years. The game started production back in 2006 and features a darker and more realistic atmosphere than previous Final Fantasy games. The game was originally meant for release on the PS3 under the name “Final Fantasy Versus XIII”. For years, many thought the game was cancelled, but then Square Enix surprised everyone at E3 2013. Release date: Fall 2014.
7: Driveclub
Driveclub was meant to launch with the PlayStation 4 as Sony’s first party racing game, to compete with Xbox One’s Forza 5. But Sony decided to push the release date to early 2014 to give developer Evolution Studios more time to polish the game. Release date: Spring 2014.
6: Destiny
From the makers of Halo, Destiny is a first person action role playing game, set in a vast science fiction world. Destine is built on a brand new engine by developer Bungie, who has been working on the game since 2010. Destiny is one of the most hyped-up games this year, and there’s a lot at stake for developer Bungie and publisher Activision. Release date: September 2014.
5: Watch Dogs
Ubisoft’s open world sci-fi action game looks and feels like a William Gibson novel: a dark sci-fi story set in the future, yet with a great emphasis on realism. Watch Dogs has been delayed several times, but recently got its official release date: May 27. The game features an open world where the main objective revolves around hacking and network infiltration. Don’t let that fool you into thinking it hasn’t got any action: there will be plenty of shootouts and car chases as well. Release date: May 2014.
4: Batman Arkham Knight
Revealed just days ago, Batman Arkham Knight is the latest entry in the Batman Arkham series, which have been tremendously successful for Warner Bros. Arkham Knight takes things to the next level, both visually and gameplay wise — the open world will be five times larger than in previous games. Release date: Fall 2014.
3: Infamous Second Son
Sony continues the Infamous franchise on the PlayStation 4 with Infamous Second Son. The game features all-new characters and an all new setting (Seattle), and takes place seven years after the ending of Infamous 2. Infamous Second Son has been in development for 3 years, and was one of the very first PlayStation 4 games to be revealed. Release date: March 2014.
2: Deep Down
Deep Down is arguably the best looking PlayStation 4 game we’ve ever seen. So far Capcom has shown us glimpses of gameplay that surpass even the tech demos we’ve seen of the Unreal Engine 4. Deep Down is a fantasy action RPG, an ode to the classic dungeon crawlers, with all sorts of dragons and creatures looming deep down. Release date: Fall 2014.
1: The Order 1886
The Order 1886 is a brand new IP from Sony and developers ready At Dawn and Sony Santa Monica. The Order 1886 is set in an alternate history in a Victorian-war London, where an old order of knights protect the city (and the world) from monsters. The game reminds us a lot of Van Helsing, and has a unique art style, not to mention some gorgeous visuals. The Order 1886 has been in development since 2010, but Sony kept things under wraps until E3 2013 with the reveal of FFXV. Release date: Fall 2014.
