Gran Turismo is one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world and, after a long wait, a new installment is finally here.

Instead of continuing the series with Gran Turismo 7 , developers Polyphony Digital opted for the new title of GT Sport.

But previous fears that it would be an interlude game seem to have been put to rest after PlayStation hosted an exclusive event at the Olympic Stadium in London.

It was the first time gamers have been able to play the new racer and they also got a chance to marvel at scale models of its impressive concept cars.

Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi revealed all the details about the game, including that it will have a mix of real and virtual cars.

Quote:

"It will have a fusion of both real and fantasy cars," he said. "All the models going into the game have been completely remodelled from scratch since Gran Turismo 6 ."

Two different professional leagues will be featured in the game: the Nations Cup and the Manufacturer Fan Cup. The first lets players represent their country and the second their favourite carmaker in live online races.

And much of GT Sport will centre around real-life racing thanks to the participation of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) - motor racing's governing body.

Latest news and videos from the top car manufacturers will be featured in a virtual showroom called Brand Central.

There's an additional new mode called "Scapes" which allows you to drop incredibly detailed renders of supercars into pre-existing photographs before sharing them online.

Gran Turismo has a 20-year history with Sony's console and its games are often cited as some of the most realistic racing titles ever made.

The franchise is the basis of the GT Academy, an annual competition co-run with Nissan where the winning play joins a real-life racing team.

GT Sport will launch in the UK on November 18, 2016.

So there you have it, the complete low-down on all the racing goodness that Gran Turismo will bring to our very loved PS4 consoles.
