At a luncheon in their beautiful, new building in downtown Provo City, Nu Skin International executives presented academic grants to teachers and students from each of our district high schools on December 17th. The grants were presented by Nu Skin President, Steven Lund, and Vice President of Corporate Relations, Gary Garrett. In celebration of their thirtieth anniversary, Nu Skin invited thirty schools in Utah and Salt Lake County to invite teachers to submit grant requests to enhance the quality of instruction in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and the Arts. Grant amounts were based on the number of students enrolled at each high school.

A committee of the Provo City School District Foundation prioritized teachers’ grant applications. The final decision on the grants awarded was made by Nu Skin executives:

Kenny Wiser, choir director at Provo High School, was awarded $4800 to improve sound absorption in the ensemble room to enable performing arts students and teachers to more productively use the music wing of the building for instruction and practice.

Jared Hearld, band director at Timpview High School, was awarded  $5600 to hire an assistant band director to lower class-size and to provide additional focus to percussion, woodwinds, and jazz band.

Jane Kestner, math teacher at Independence High School, was awarded $1300 to purchase an electronic student response system to enable math and science teachers to quickly gauge student mastery of critical content during instruction.

Provo City School District appreciates the opportunity to partner with this local business in supporting innovation and quality teaching in our city. The district is grateful for the generosity of Nu Skin International.
