On June 9th, the Rt. Rev. Donald Phillips will ordain Providence faculty members Kara Mandryk and Lissa Wray-Beal to the Transitional Diaconate in the Diocese of Rupert's Land, in the Anglican Church of Canada. Being ordained deacons of the Anglican Church of Canada, means that over the coming year they will engage a process of discernment toward ordination as priests of the church. All are invited to share in this occasion on Sunday, at 3:00 pm at St. John's Cathedral, 135 Anderson Avenue in Winnipeg.Dr. Mandryk is the Associate Professor for Worship and Christian Spirituality in the University College. In addition to her teaching and administrative duties as head of the Biblical and Theological Studies department, Kara also coordinates the chapel program and Missio Dei. Mandryk completed her doctorate at the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies in Orange Park, Florida in 2006.Dr. Wray-Beal is the Professor of Old Testament in the Seminary. Lissa is originally from the Vancouver area. Her ministry and studies have taken her to the Northwest Territories, Edmonton, Toronto, and now Winnipeg. She began her theological education in Edmonton, and pastored there for a number of years before moving to Toronto to pursue her PhD.Providence alumni, Allison Chubb, who graduated from Providence with a bachelor's degree in TESOL in 2008, will also be ordained. Chubb recently completed her graduate degree at Wycliffe College (University of Toronto).I think these ordinations are very good news for the church; three strong, thoughtful, and capable women, each bringing very particular gifts and abilities into this new chapter in their lives of faith and ministry states Rev. Jamie Howison, who will be preaching at the service, I'm looking forward to having all of them as part of our diocesan clergy community. In total, fourteen Providence faculty are ordained in a variety of denominations including Anglican Church of Canada, Assemblies of God, Brethren in Christ, Canadian Baptist of Western Canada, Evangelical Free Church of America, Evangelical Free Church of Canada, Evangelical Mennonite Church, Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist, Mennonite Church Canada, North American Baptist, and Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada.
