Four beaches along the Costa Tropical and 17 beaches on the Costa del Sol has been the EU’s highest honor, the blue flag. The award guarantees the quality of the sand, bathing and the services offered on the beach.

On the Costa Tropical is the coastal strip is part of the province of Granada have beaches Calahonda, Carchuna, Torrenueva and Playa Granada the highest award. There is a beach more than last year.

Costa del Sol and Málaga province this year has 17 beaches with Blue Flag which is three fewer than last year. Marbella has the most, seven of which are Artola (Cabo Pino), Venus Bajadilla, Guadalmina, San Pedro, El Cable-Pinillo, Puerto Banus, Rio Verde and Faro.

Estepona has three beaches (La Rada, El Cristo and El Padrón), Malaga city has two (El Dedo and Malagueta Caleta) and Velez (Benajarafe y Torre del Mar). The other beaches in the province who have been awarded the blue flag are Algarrobo (Algarrobo Costa) Rincón de la Victoria (Cala del Moral) and Manilva (Gaviotas-El Castillo).

Spain holds the world record on the beaches of the highest quality. 34 new blue flag was hoisted on Spanish beaches in 2014 and we are now up to 681 flags total.

Blue Flag is an international eco-labeling, which guarantees good experience of the beach and harbor. The organization behind the flags works to protect and take good care of our common marine and coastal environment.

The Balearic Islands have no less than 23 new flag and is now at 85, while Murcia can add seven new, and is now at 33, it means one of five beaches in Spain has a blue flag below.

After Spain comes Greece with 407, Turkey with 397, France 379 and Portugal 298. It has been granted 23 new Blue Flag for beaches and 11 new to marinas.

It is not just beaches awarded a Blue Flag. The world’s marinas are also, and this leads Spain for the first time with 108 Blue Flag, Germany 103, Netherlands 101, France 90 and Italy 62.
