It’s getting harder and harder to rent out apartments close to the beach in Spain and it causes prices to dive. Since the crisis began in 2008, the prices of renting a vacation property fell by 30 percent.

But there is a big difference in the market, and in some regions, prices have dropped considerably smaller than in others. Andalusia has performed best with a modest decline of 3.7 percent. It costs a holiday home near the beach around 1,800 euros for a whole month in July or August.

Something different is the situation in Alicante, affected by price declines across the board. It costs the cheapest apartments from 1,000 Euros per month. On the first line right next to the beach and in high season costs a holiday apartment typist around 1,400 Euros.

But also in the coveted northern Spain has the prices fallen. Basque area is hit by price declines of 18 percent. An apartment in Bakio costs this year around 1,800 Euros for the whole of August.

In the Canary Islands there have not been any major fluctuations. It costs a holiday between 900 and 2,250 Euros per month. The most expensive is the popular tourist area of Puerto de Mogan with an average price of 2,000 Euros per month. It is thus one of the most expensive holiday destinations in Spain. Marbella is just after in the top price list for hollydays apartments and villas.

Be careful on the road in France from Spain

Are you heading to the north, so do not rest too much on the accelerator on the French roads.

A new agreement between the French and Spanish police authorities means that the French gendarmes come to crack down on Spanish drivers who exceed the speed limit on French roads – and vice versa.

The French traffic police will thanks to the exchange of police databases to locate drivers with Spanish license and the owners of the Spanish-registered cars.

Here from 1 August, drivers being pinched in a French cruise control, automatically get a “friendly” greeting from the French traffic police at the address at home in Spain. These new measures will reduce the current impunity for speed thugs from another country.

The scheme is part of the new EU directive 2011782/UE of prosecution in other countries and means that the authorities can crack down against the culprits in vehicles registered in another country.
