But there’s a big change on the way for Kat’s whole range, and it’s one that’s really close to her heart. “When I launched [the line,] I was not sober; I was not vegan yet,” Kat told magazine Laika.  “So I had no idea about ingredients in formulation. I would always think it was funny when brands would be like, ‘Oh, we’re vegan.’ Yeah, well, you don’t eat lipstick. [I was] super ignorant, you know?”

Kat then learnt that some additives into makeup that might have a tech-sounding, non animal related name, like ‘carmine’, are actually make using animal byproducts. Carmine, for example, uses crushed up beetles wings. “We have been reformulating anything that had carmine in the past, and if we can’t reformulate them, we just throw them out. I can live without a purple eye shadow, it’s fine,” she told Laika.

Kat’s range is already cruelty free, and given her vegan lifestyle and passion for animal rights, it seems like a natural move for the makeup entrepreneur to formulate her products to be vegan.
