As our makeup collections grow thanks to beauty vloggers and Kardashians proving that no, more IS more sometimes, there generally comes a product everyone who is “in the know” is obsessing over that is just straight up confusion to our normal people’s ears. Remember when contouring was just… what? Well, now it’s banana powder that’s sending us all into a spin.

Firstly, no it’s not made of bananas. That would be potentially terrifying. It’s more a banana colour, hence the name. It’s essentially a new spin on setting powder. Like setting powder and colour correction had a baby. It’s pastel yellow, so it’s pretty confronting in the packet.

Australis Banana Powder, $14.95

So what’s its point? Well, it has a two-prong colour correcting effect. Applied to set concealer under eyes, the yellow tones help eliminate dark circles, brightening the under eye area so you look way more awake. You can also use it on areas with redness, because it counteracts that as well. Oh, and in case it wasn’t already enough of a slashie, it can also be used all over to give a matte, brightening finish to your foundation.

Some are offered in loose powder form, and some in pressed – either is fine, just use a powder brush if you’re adding to large areas or all-over, and pat on with a small, fluffy shadow brush or concealer brush if using to set under-eye concealer.
