In developing news – quite literally – I am writing this blog whilst a L’Oréal Paris Preference Wild Ombré shade is taking shape on my lengths*. True dinks. Yes, us beauty writers will always let vanity get in the way of a good story, and that means writing about a hair colour as it’s developing.

The preface is simple: obtain locks that boast massive street cred, without leaving your couch. Phenomenally fashion-forward, the ombré look – think dark roots and lighter ends – is favoured by myself and an estimated 96.38% of female mortals and mega stars alike. In no way is this estimate anything more than a hypothesis on my part, but the truth is, if you are anyone, you’ve had Ombre done.

And not just on your noggin’. See, ombré nails – a manicure with a gradient effect, usually light at the bottom that gradually blends into a darker colour – is big news.

PRIMPED’s resident nail guru Hayley even created our vary own tropical variation a little while back. However, if experimenting with sponges isn’t exactly your idea of a good time, another form we’re currently loving is ombré gradient nails à la Lauren Conrad’s tips shown here. Basically, it’s as easy as beginning with a lighter shade on one nail, then gradually turning to darker shades, nail-by-nail.

And lips? Well the kisser has been switching it up too with ombré effect of a darker shade around the periphery of the pout and a softer tone taking centre stage, or a lighter shade on the top and a darker tone on the bottom.

Whichever you have – or are tempted to try – within the ombré-sphere, the rules are pretty simple; light meets shade. Voilà! Statement made.

The most permanent ombré effect is with hair though, hence me jumping in headfirst. And I am expecting great things as the alumni before me isn’t too shabby at all.

Where does one start? From Whitney Port to S.J.P, Drew Barrymore to Rachel Bilson, the layered two-toned look has reigned supreme for a few seasons, but until now, it’s had the celebrity price tag to match.

And although it’s a bit woofy at the minute, putting this stuff on – bang together mixture, brush it on, keep blogging – was a cinch. The latest home-hair hyperbole seems to be all its cranked up to be. So far, so easy – even an ape could do it. Although it would have to be an ape with mid to long lengths, as L’Oréal Paris Preference Wild Ombré is the two-toned hair trick you can do at-home.

L’Oréal Paris Preference Wild Ombré has been painstakingly formulated in the L’Oréal Research Laboratories in collaboration with L’Oréal Paris Creative Colourist Director, Christophe Robin so that Hollywood’s hottest hair trend can be easily and accurately achieved at home.

“The results are 100% guaranteed and, since you don’t have to apply it to the roots, there’s no need for touch ups!” says Christophe.

Layers are lush and lengths hydrated from roots to tips.“I love the Preference Wild Ombré… because they make the hair incredibly luminous,” he adds of the bespoke formulations.

I’m most definitely on board here. I am very confident the combination Wild Ombré combination of lightening cream technology and care complex with nutri-ceramides and Hi-Shine Elixir will not damage my hair any further than I have already attempted to do, and the expert brush means that if I am too busy to do it, maybe my goldfish could step in. it’s that easy!

Did I mention the rules are minimal? For best results apply between the ear and chin, brush each section from top to bottom and then leave according to desired intensity before rinsing. Head over to the Beauty Desk for the lowdown.

Too. Easy. So, gotta fly. Must rinse this stuff out, and reveal a subtly more-sun kissed me. All in the space of a cool 45 minutes…now, that is wild!

I ain’t talking jive when I report that the Ombré rocked. If anything, my slap and dash approach in between deadlines made the subtle shimmery light nuances to my lengths look even more fashion-forward.

Primpettes, have you tried at-home colour? How do you feel about the Ombré hair, nails and lips trend?
