Hyderabad:  The Land Acquisition Amendment Bill passed recently in the Telangana Assembly is awaiting President Pranab Mukherjee’s assent. The State government has already forwarded the Bill for the President’s approval, Irrigation and Legislature Affairs Minister T Harish Rao has said.

Interacting with media persons in the Assembly lobby during lunch recess, the minister exuded confidence that the President will give his assent once the Bill reaches him. The State government has sent the Bill (for amendment to 2013 Land Acquisition Act) to the Centre for the assent of the President. “We do hope that the President will give his approval for the Land Acquisition Bill of Telangana and enable it to take up developmental works in various sectors such as railways, irrigation, industries, housing and others which need the land bank.

The Bill, he said, on becoming Act on Pranab Mukherjee’s assent, will surely prove handy to spur rapid growth in the State. It is pertinent to note that the government has kept ready 650 acres of land in the twin cities for works related to housing and others. He flayed the opposition parties for trying to create hurdles to the Bill from getting passed.

Mallanna Sagar and other projects were stiffly opposed by the Congress, Telugu Desam and left parties. We have succeeded in our efforts to overcome the problem”, Harish said. He ridiculed the opposition parties for filing court cases and raising objections to the development works. Now that the Centre would take a call after it passes through Legal, Home and other departments for clearance. The Bill is to reach the President after Prime Minister Narendra Modi giving green signal. –NSS
