KCR meets Gadkari
Hyderabad: About 2,600 km roads in Telangana are likely to get a face-lift as the Centre has extended its support and financial assistance.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao along with Roads & Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswar Rao and MP B Vinod Kumar called on Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on Monday and sought his help for transforming the roads and related projects. Gadkari obliged CM’s plea for the roads development. He also extended help for land acquisition in military area in Secunderabad.
Tummala Nageswar Rao told media persons later that they sought defence land for expansion of Paradise- Bowenpally road into four-road national highway and help overcome hurdles in land acquisition of defence land. Nitin Gadkari agreed to the appeals of the Telangana government and promised to provide all assistance for the transformation of roads into national highways, he said. Tummala also said the Union minister suggested to the state government to submit a report after completing land acquisition process.
During the crucial meeting, the Chief Minister urged the Union minister to extend support for taking up roads in the Naxal-infested areas, dry port works and those road projects promised after formation of Telangana.
In a related development, IT Minister KT Rama Rao and Tummala Nageswar Rao met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and urged him to release funds pending for two years to taking up road works. “We also sought Rs 1290 crores for taking up road project works in the extremist affected areas”, they said.
Besides seeking support for 2600-km road to be developed into national highways, KTR also urged the Centre to address the issues mentioned in the AP Reorganization Act and help complete road works in problematic areas. They also sought Central help for expansion of Yadadri–Warangal highway, speeding up of Amaravathi, Kothagudem and Jagadalpur highways, construction of second bridge at Bhadrachalam on Godavari and funds for laying four-lane roads in new districts.
