We all know that the Finnabair Creative Team is amazing! Art Recipes are SO inspiring, just because we can see all of their beautiful work and stunning techniques. This month, the Art Recipe is based on using Patina Effects Pastes + Modeling Paste + Sparks Acrylic Paints + Metallique Waxes!! All of the designers created with a palette of greens and silver, along with a punch of blue or purple as a highlight, and they all used "love" as their inspiration!!

This color combo was quite a challenge for me, not exactly my first choice of a color palette. But, I'm so glad I took this challenge - I love it and I think it will be one of my favorite color choices from now on. I created a mixed-media canvas with a little bit of masculine (or maybe boyish? :) ) look. The whole composition is rich in embellishments and add-ons, very dimensional, and full of layers. ~ Kasia Bogatko - visit her website here!

The background is also quite varied - I used pieces from moulds, metal embellishments, and clear Art Pebbles. The colors come from Mica Powders and Art Alchemy paints. I lightened them gently with White Heavy Gesso.

I used Art Alchemy Waxes to turn chipboard elements into metal-looking parts. The waxes are just perfect for this! For me, the best way to apply the Waxes is simply with my fingers. :) This way you can easily control the amount, and the way you want to apply them. I really love the smooth, shiny effect. And let's not forget the delicious scent accompanying you as you create. ;)

I'm beyond excited to be part of this Art Recipe because it's using some of the fabulous new products – Patina Effects Pastes and Waxes. If you've been following the projects I've been creating online, you know how I'm basically addicted to using them on anything I can get my hands on! ~ John Creighton Petersen - visit his website here!

For this project, I transformed an old teapot that I'd picked up at a yard sale for basically nothing (twenty five cents) that was pretty scratched up and needed a new lease on life. And I thought that it would make the perfect photo holder. All of the projects I've been creating with the new Patina Effects Pastes have used Heavy Black Gesso, so I decided that I wanted to go out of my comfort zone and see what the results look like on a lighter palette. I used Heavy White Gesso to create my ground for this project and applied the gesso in a cross-hatch pattern to build some texture for the background.

Once the gesso dried, I began applying a few colors of the new Waxes to add some beautiful color and shimmer to the project. If you haven't used the new Waxes yet, you'll find that a little bit goes a very long way on your projects – not to mention they're so creamy and they'll make your studio smell divine! Since our colors for the Art Recipe were greens and blues, I decorated the background areas of the teapot with some of Finnabair's stamps. Using a paint brush, I inked the rubber stamps with Mermaid Sparkle Sparks Acrylic Paint and randomly stamped onto the teapot. The Sparks paints add a touch of shimmer and sparkle to the background – and, since I loved how this color appeared on the background, I decided to highlight a few of the areas with this color as well.

Because there weren't any flat surfaces on the teapot, I used my finger to first apply the Blue Patina Paste randomly on the teapot, followed with the Mint Patina Paste. Once both of those had dried, I used a brush to highlight these areas with the Brass Patina Paste. You can use a heat tool to set each color but you'll discover that these pastes dry pretty quickly and for this project I found that I didn't even need to use a heat tool between colors.

I colored all of the embellishments first with Heavy White Gesso, followed with the Waxes as used in the same order for coloring the background of the teapot plus a touch of the Metallic Copper Wax to both highlight and match the patina finish. Because of the round shape of the teapot, I bent the embellishments to match the contour of the teapot and adhered them to the teapot with Snowflake Paste. While the Snowflake Paste was still wet, I sprinkled Micro Beads in Splash, Grass, and Copper and then heat set. There are so many different possibilities for this project and you can introduce virtually any color combination to work with the Patina Effects Pastes.

"A small, black, cardboard box (that my new reading glasses came in) is the base for this month's Art Recipe. After its make-over I may end up filling it with Hershey’s Kisses and give to a special friend. This month's recipe - Patina Paste, Modeling Paste, Sparks Acrylic Paints and Metallique Waxes - each one with unique qualities, and all delivering interesting and varied textural and visual effects. The dull little box has been given dimension, texture, color, and a warm glow thanks to these four beautiful art mediums. These products are incredibly versatile and you can use each one of them on virtually any surface." ~ Gayle Price http://blissandgesso.blogspot.

* Patina Paste (just the Blue and Brass) has been used on the resin heart and also on the patterned background  chipboard.

* Beautiful shimmery Sparks Acrylic Paints (in Mermaid Sparkle and Fairy Wings) have been used with Modeling Paste through a stencil to create a textured background on the cardboard, as well as to color the resin cherub, and Finnabair's Mechanicals.

* Metallique Wax has been rubbed gently over the entire box, the cherub and the Mechanicals to give a soft, warm glow.

* When using Sparks Acrylic Paints with Modeling Paste, you can, of course, mix the paint into the paste and this will color it, but it dilutes the color intensity and the shimmer. I used the Modeling Paste through a stencil in the usual way, then, while it was still wet and the stencil still in place, I used a spatula to smear Sparks Acrylics in Mermaid Sparkle and Fairy Wings over the top. When you remove the stencil, you are left with a built up, textural patterned layer with a thin coating of intense, shimmering colour on the surface.
