Feeling a tad adventurous lately? Bored of using the same old Android or iOS or Windows phones? Well the Chinese telecom company ZTE might have a little something for you. ZTE recently unveiled the first ever Firefox OS based phone, the ZTE Open. This phone is one of a kind in the market which sort of begs the question will it survive? But looking at the price it has quoted at in the market the ZTE Open might just make it. The ZTE Open has not yet been launched in India but when does, the ZTE Open Price is expected to be something around Rs 5,400.

ZTE have already made it clear that this isn’t a very high end phone. It’s mainly targeted at the population looking for a decent smartphone at a pretty low cost. The configurations for ZTE Open aren’t that upscale but are pretty decent according to the price range. As mentioned above this phone runs on the Firefox OS and is powered by a 1 GHz QUALCOMM MSM7225A processor and has a 256 MB RAM. The phone features an internal memory of 512 MB which is expandable up to 32GB via micro SD cards. The ZTE Open Firefox phone is a single sim handset with a single 3.2MP camera in the rear. The phone supports, 2G, 3G, WiFi and GPRS connectivity.
Most hands on reviews have referred to the Firefox interface as something between the iOS and Android. It looks a lot like the apple OS with the tray in the bottom with options for dialer, text, web browser and the camera but unlike the square icons of iOS the icons are round. The drop down tray, an Android feature, is also available which enables the user to change the profile settings; toggle Bluetooth etc. Until now the public reaction towards the OS interface has been mixed.
Whether this phone will hit it with the Indian consumers or not is still an unknown variable. Though the OS seems to be made especially for low end phones the App bank still needs to grow a lot. Only time will tell how successful ZTE Open will be in the Indian markets.
