Continental Motors Group Ltd. announced Monday its pending acquisition of Danbury Aerospace’s six operating divisions in San Antonio, Texas, as well as the Titan brand of engines and parts.

Specifically, Continental Motors Group – an AVIC International Holding Corp. company – will purchase “essentially all of the assets associated” with Danbury’s Engine Components International Inc., Precision Machined Parts Inc., Airmotive Engineering Corp., Aircooled Motors Sterling Machinery and Process and EC Services Inc.

Rhett Ross, vice president of AVIC International and director of Continental Motors Group, said in a prepared statement customers can “continue to look forward to the high quality of Danbury Aerospace’s components and engines and customer support for which Danbury and CMG are known.”

“In addition, we are excited about the strategic opportunities for new innovation in the certified and experimental markets that this partnership will deliver,” Ross said.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mobile-based Continental Motors Group employs roughly 450 between its facilities at Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley and in Fairhope, as well as a manufacturing plant employing 200 in St. Egidien, Germany; a service and support operation employing eight in Beijing; and the recently acquired United Turbines near the Miami International Airport.

Holding company Danbury Aerospace – which offers its products under the brand Engine Components International, or ECi – has been designing and manufacturing components and engines since 1943, and distinguished itself as an industry leader in parts manufacturing authorization and experimental engine technologies for the certified and experimental piston engine powered segments of the general aviation market.

Its capabilities include:

PMA design and certification

Engine design and certification

Operation of a Part 145 Repair Station for piston aircraft engines and parts

Manufacturing process design

Manufacturing system design and production

Sales, service and support

“We are delighted at the opportunity to work with the ECi team as they join the Continental Motors Group family of companies,” Ross said.

In turn, the acquisition should allow CMG to offer new products and service in the kit market, experimental market and certified aftermarket, while placing focus on expanding the experimental engine product into key certified aircraft segments previously untapped by the company.

CMG spokesman Emmanuel Davidson said he does not anticipate the Danbury acquisition to affect employment directly in Mobile because all of the new assets are in San Antonio, but future growth companywide could alter those projections.

“I expect us to continue to grow, not only in …Read More
