From McDonnell-Douglas and Hughes Aerospace to SpaceX and CalTech’s NASA run Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Los Angeles is the birthplace of modern aerospace technology, but in recent years the industry has lost many of its mainstays in Southern California. With the announcement this morning that the first National Aerospace Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Exposition—intended to connect foreign investors with aerospace manufacturers in the U.S.—will take place in Los Angeles, Mayor Garcetti and the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation hope to revitalize the aerospace industry in Southern California.
“The aerospace cluster surrounding the Los Angeles Air Force Base is the most concentrated in the U.S., and this event will help us leverage that built-in advantage to boost exports and create middle class jobs,” Mayor Garcetti said in a statement. “As a primary entry point for Foreign Direct Investment and as home to aerospace’s most innovative companies, Los Angeles is the natural choice for the Department of Commerce’s first Aerospace FDI Expo.”
The expo kicks off October 26 at the Hyatt Century Hotel.
