An era in movie going comes to an end this week with the release of Breaking Dawn Part 2, the final chapter in the enormously popular Twilight Saga. Fans have been waiting with much anticipation for what is destined to be the most profitable in the franchise.

Bella is now a “newborn” vampire as Edward gave her the “kiss of life” when she nearly died as a result of giving birth. She has adapted to her new life as an immortal quite well and is happy being a mother. The story chiefly revolves around the consequences that arise when the most powerful coven of vampires known as the Volturi discover that Bella’s daughter is half mortal, half immortal.

This is a visually stunning movie with great photography complimented by beautiful locations. The ensemble cast are consistent and Dakota Fanning makes a welcome return in her small but memorable role. The score is outstanding seemingly much more effective than in the previous films. Pacing of the story was at a good level initially, but then it seemed that the writers crammed in as much as possible since it was the final chapter. This made it somewhat exhausting for audience members who had not read the book trying to absorb all the details.

Fans will not be disappointed. There is romance, amazing special effects, plenty of vampire and wolf action and notably a tribute at the end where the most memorable moments throughout the series are screened. The battle scene which ensures (or does it?) was masterly filmed and is incredibly graphic thus keeping faithful to one of the integral features of these movies. A respectable finale to a series of films which audiences around the world have embraced... JAKE 3.5
