Warning: Please note that this article is a full recap for Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Episode 13 and therefore contains major spoilers. Please do not scroll down until you have watched “How The A Stole Christmas,” which aired on Tuesday, December 9th on ABC Family!

Peek-a-boo, Ali….

What happens when four Pretty Little Liars come face-to-face with their former ruthless leader at an Ice Ball benefit hosted by a member of a family that’s out to get their blood. You get a downright blizzard of glamor, tension, and paranormal sightings! The streets may have been filled with glistening snow and all the houses strewn with holly and twinkling lights, but in true PLL form, the evening was filled with plenty of fright! That being said, join us below as we relive every fa la la la la-cious twist and turn that occurred in “How The A Stole Christmas!”

Welcome to the Ho-Ho-Ho-down Part Deux.

Santa Con: Is it just us or was everyone and their mother dressed up as Ol’ Saint Nick during the PLL Christmas episode? First, a white bearded Lucas was straight up ballin’ as all the pretty ladies at the gala lined up to take turns sitting on his lap. (It was the Weird Science of Ice Balls.) Then, Ali was caught kissing Detective Holbrook’s version of the red-suited gift giver — a version that got uncomfortably cryptic and pervy with Aria. (Ring ring! Yes, hello? May we please speak to Chris Hansen?) And, because she wanted to spice things up for her man who was sidelined with a broken leg and cumbersome cast, Spencer slipped on a sexy Santa costume and — boy! — it definitely left Tiny
Tim
Toby panting like a big, dumb dog. He was all,  ‘Hey babygirl, my leg isn’t working but that doesn’t mean my other parts are broken….Wink wink.’ As for the most naughty moment of all? When Ezra, Toby, Caleb, and Paige appeared on the Hastings staircase wearing nothing but Santa-themed boxers. Leave it to Rosewood, PA to make a sex symbol out of a plump, jolly old man!

Gifts from A: Why can’t we have nice things? Answer: Because of freaking A. Not only does the psycho hire a Salvation Army Santa to hand Aria a snow globe that comes with a message telling the girls to sit back, relax, and take a break from worrying about being sliced up in their sleep (HA! NICE TRY!), but he/she also causes everyone to lose their appetite. After a delightful holiday feast, the girls and their significant others venture outside to check out an exciting tree lighting experience. Unfortunately for them, A put the little show together. “MERRY CHRISTMAS, BITCHES!” Um, you shouldn’t have. You really, really shouldn’t have.

‘Let’s all bow our heads down and thank the writers for not killing us off…yet.’

The Martha Stewart of Rosewood: Did anyone know that Ezra is a born homemaker and the perfect dinner host? Yes, it’s weird that he had his students over for supper as opposed to his family or even friends his own age — but we’ve stopped dwelling over this since it appears to be a moot point. Not only did Mister “I Asked for One Pony And Got Two Instead” give Aria some luscious bling-a-ling-ling and designer couture, but he also threw a fancy meal that involved candles, elegant place settings, and juicy roasted chicken that was probably boysenberry pie in disguise. Yum! (Important note: No cans of chickpeas were harmed in the making of this feast.)

As for Ali, she misses out on eating until she’s forced to unbutton her pants to make room for dessert. Instead, she presses her nose against the window and takes in the lovely vignette of her frenemies having a wonderful time without her. She’s never felt lonelier in her entire existence, and we actually feel bad for her. Couldn’t they at least have packed her a doggie bag or something, much like Caroline did for Stefan during TVD Friendsgiving? Sheesh! #EbenezerScroogeProbs.

#AliDCosplay

Minions Assemble: Ali’s new group of worshipers is as thick as thieves; she managed to recruit Cindy and Mindy (a.k.a ‘the nerdy twins’) and the town’s very own maybe-visually-impaired girl and her seeing eye human — Jenna and Sydney! Shocked that they’re now Team Ali and willing to walk around with Ali’s egotistical take on Death Eater masks, Emily confronts each style soldier to find out what changed their minds about the World’s Most Famous Living Dead Girl. According to them, Ali is getting all Machiavelli on their asses — they fear her so therefore they’re obeying her every command to avoid her wrath. To be fair, Ali did blind Jenna by casually throwing a bunch of firecrackers right in her face — so her fear is justified. As for Sydney? We still wonder what her deal is!

‘You da one, boo.’

Flashback Central: We live for PLL flashbacks — especially when they feature Hanna and Mona getting all Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield with each other. “Besties forever, promise,” they utter a during a
shoplifting
shopping excursion in one of the evening’s many throwback scene. They’re rocking bright faux fur coats and some extra fluffy hats because apparently this was the style in the mid to late 2000s. (It’s also at this point that Mona told Hanna to feel free to steal anything she can’t afford. Okay, relax there, Iago.) Second best moment? Lil’ Ali D bumping away on the black-and-white keys of a baby grand like a poor man’s Mozart and telling her mom she needs to invest in a pair of glasses ASAP. LMAO! Start them sassy while they’re young, we say.

‘And a dead girl in a pear treeeeeeee!’

Farewell, Paily: Does the couple that goes for late night swims and caroling at a nursing home stay together? Sadly, no. Paige announces that her parents want her to move to California because Rosewood is the murder capital of the world and they’ve only just realized that their daughter is probably next in line to be used as a pawn in an attempt to shock viewers. Plus, Paige is really tired of all the cupcakes tasting like pennies, having her bike vandalized every other week, and Emily making googly eyes at Ali’s bedunkadunk when she thinks she’s not looking. Meanwhile, we’re like, ‘Great! We don’t want you to die, chica, but can you wait for Em to get a scholarship first so the two of you can move in together and decorate your apartment with Sharks memorabilia? Thanks.’

‘Santa don’t like no betches.’

Anti-Bullying: Because they are kind-hearted folks, Caleb and Hanna spend part of the episode handing out toys to a bunch of little kids. They’re even dressed as elves which is super cute! However, when a rude 10-year-old queen bee starts taunting her boo as well as a deaf child coloring by her lonesome, Hanna snaps into sass mode and tells the pint-sized serpent to STFU. The mini-Ali is all like, ‘Make me, you stank-faced hussy!’ and Hanna snaps because she’s totally over mean girl attitudes. She’s like ‘Oh hell to the naw! This munchkin diva did not just get in my grill!’ and warns her that “Bitches get buried.” Sure, terrifying kids is probably not a wise idea — but if it helps prevent future shovel bashings and faked death scenarios, we’re all for it!

‘All that glitter isn’t gold — it’s just eyeshadow from Claire’s.’

The Caped Lurker: Cece Drake — wearing enough glitter to make Ke$ha green with envy– shows up at the ball wearing a billowy white cape (probably woven from the fur of all the woodland creatures she happens to find in her boutique dressing room). Clearly, she didn’t get the memo that once you’re on the lam, you don’t return to the place you’re most wanted in! So what did blondie cakes want? To tell Alison that her former “friends” are on to her — because this was obviously something that couldn’t have been done over email or text. Much too simple!

‘So I see where you get the crazy from….’

Ghost Mona: The sassy vixen returned to haunt the hell out of Alison. She took her back to an important moment in a young Liar’s life — the moment she uttered her first fib. Apparently when Ali was a wee child, she found two hidden gifts — each containing the same dress. Jessica DiLaurentis scolded her daughter for snooping around, but then asked her to lie to her father Kenneth. Why? She claimed double trouble fashion would wreak havoc upon her on-the-rocks marriage, and could potentially lead to a divorce — you know, as opposed to having an affair with your lawyer neighbor — but we thinkest she was hiding something major. Perhaps like a secret daughter tucked away in a sanatorium? Who knows at this point! The best part of Mona’s visit though — aside from the fact that she looked like someone had sprinkled flour all over Dee Snider’s hair — was when a scared Alison asked, “Am I going to hell?” We were just like, ‘Haha! Is this for real?’ as a montage of Ali tormenting people (Pig Skin, Hefty Hanna, Hermy, etc) come to mind. As for the eeriest part of this Christmas Carol-esque hallucination? When Ali saw her legless body lying cold and still in a coffin, and her mom appearing as the Black Widow/Woman in Black warns her daughter: “They’ll be coming for you.” WTF.

‘It ain’t a proper Christmas without a crackling fire and someone trying to plunge a knife into your chest, ya know what I’m saying?’ #thuglife

The Hitchcock Hour: Guys, we don’t know about you but any time Detective Hanna appears on our screen, nothing — and we mean nothing, not even hot guys rocking holiday-themed boxers — can avert our attention from her. She’s completely mesmerizing when she puts on her Nancy Drew pants! And apparently, she, Spencer, and Toby had been enjoying a Hitchcock marathon in weeks prior to PLL 5×13 because they decided to roll out the same plan Grace Kelly did with James Stewart did in Rear Window in order to catch a thief. In their case though? It was to catch a seemingly supernatural murderer –which is a hundred times worse. So this is how it went down: After a lawyer handed Hanna
a convenient piece of information to move the plot along
a map of Ali’s house with all her hiding spots marked, Spencer and Hannakins decided to break into the DiLaurentis house to search for clues that would exonerate Spencer as Prime Suspect Numero Uno in the case of “Who killed Bethany Young?” (Spencer’s on bail right now, but she’d rather dance barefoot on a pile of Aria’s spiked earrings and dead monkeys  than slip on an orange jump suit. It clashes with her hair yo! And what if she gets shanked? No thanks!)

‘Dear Alison, I’m always down for some BBQ. Please don’t murder me. Sincerely, The Show’s Possible Red Herring

As Toby kept watch, the ladies searched high and low for something that would connect Ali to Mona’s death. They stumbled upon a passport she had made up for “Holly Varjak” (to which Spencer cheekily commented, “She’s writing her happy ending. To Breakfast at Tiffany’s — the movie, not the books.”), as well as a tape of Ali saying something about how he/she “would kill you” and some personal ads that Ali possibly commissioned to communicate with someone. (Someone’s been watching too much Criminal Minds!) Team Spanna also discovers an Excellence in Archery award, but that just proves that Ali is a wannabe Katniss Everdeen,  not a cold-hearted killer — as well as jack-in-the-box because Ali is basically a hoarder of demonic toys, masks of her own face, recordings in which people are talking about being butchered and buried alive, and flimsy yellow tank-tops. But did the ladies find something — anything — that could potentially be deemed incriminating in the court of law (at least in Rosewood’s version of it)? Why, yes they did! Hanna discovered a letter that proved Ali knew Bethany and had even invited her to a Labor Day party. Unfortunately, Hanna heard creaks all around her and thought investigating the scary-ass sounds would be worthwhile; thus she ran into A and got the living daylights knocked out of her. Spencer ran to her friend’s aid and was relieved to find her breathing still. (FYI: She happened to miss A observing them from behind Ali’s collection of creepy dolls!) Hanna awoke later from her unconscious state and was like, ‘And you were there. And you and you and a baby faced zombie killer that allegedly wasn’t in a stabby mood!’ Aww!

So, dolls: What was your favorite moment from Pretty Little Liars Season 5 Episode 13? Who do you think killed Bethany Young? What about Mona Vanderwaal? Who’s your prime “A” suspect at this point? Share your thoughts in the comments!
