By now, most of you are already aware of the special event taking place on Tuesday, February 10th that’s bound to take ABC Family by storm. If you guessed the Pretty Little Liars black and white episode, then you are right on the money! The highly anticipated PLL installment pays tribute to film noir and old Hollywood classics, and we are thrilled to inform you that we finally have a first glimpse of this incredible television feat! The network, ever so generous, just released a batch of photos from Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Episode 19: “Shadow Play”, and we are completely mesmerized at how saturated they are with darkness and mystery. We apologize for sounding over-the-top, but honest to goodness, the cast members look so glamorous and alluring our jaws immediately hit the ground at the first sight of them and haven’t come back up since.
The captivating new images not only show Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Aria (Lucy Hale), Hanna (Ashley Benson), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Toby (Keegan Allen), and Alison (Sasha Pieterse) looking drop dead gorgeous in their 1940s attire, but also tease major tension between our beloved Rosewood residents. We spy Spencer and Alison embroiled in a staring contest and Spencer, Hanna, and Em convening in the school bathroom without Aria. Spencer’s search for answers takes her down a dangerous and stormy path, and judging by her worried expression in these pics, we have a feeling she’s going to uncover some spine-tingling details about her friends and family.
Speaking of Aria, she appears to be in a lugubrious mood and is photographed staring out at the rain from the backseat of a old-fashioned vehicle. She seems suspicious of how on edge everyone is and how timid they’ve acting. As for Toby, he’s dressed to kill in a trench coat, fancy tie, and debonair hat with a tilted brim. (It’s as though Humphrey Bogart rose to life and decided to play detective in a quaint-yet-eerie fictional town where murder and mayhem run rampant.) Interestingly enough, there seem to be numerous interactions between Toby and his one true love Spencer. Will they continue investigating his mom’s death or are they joining forces to search for evidence and clues that incriminates A/Board Shorts/Ezra? We have no idea but we’re completely okay with the ample Spoby action we’re being promised!
Oh and ready for fun fact about the fashion featured in this ep? Spencer’s silk, flowing nightgown with the embellished waist was inspired by Lauren Bacall’s style in “The Big Sleep,” according to what Mandi Line exclusively told Alloy Entertainment.
