With summer right around the corner we welcome a host of outdoor activities and adventure to Westchester County.

Explore the Hudson River
Get out and explore the Hudson River on five curated kayak/canoe tours, in addition to private tours and group trips. Hudson River Recreation provides hourly rentals of recreational sit-on-top kayaks and canoes from the Echo Canoe and Kayak Launch in Croton on Hudson. As no experience is necessary for recreational kayak or canoe rentals, this is a great way for adventurous first timers to experience the great outdoors. Bicycle Sundays
One of Westchester’s longest-running and beloved recreational programs, Bicycle Sundays are now open on the Bronx River Parkway from 10:00am-2:00pm. Sponsored by Con Edison, NewYork-Presbyterian and Friends of Westchester County Parks, Bicycle Sundays allow for a portion of the Bronx River Parkway to be closed to cars and used exclusively by bicyclists, joggers, walkers, scooters and strollers. The course runs from the Westchester County Center in White Plains, south to Scarsdale Road in Yonkers, a round-trip of 13.1 miles, with many points of entry and exit along the way. Rye Playland
Officially open for the season on Saturday, May 7 at noon, Rye Playland is a fun-filled amusement park that offers rides, beach and boardwalk, swimming and miniature golf. People of all ages can enjoy leisure strolls along the boardwalk overlooking the Long Island Sound, soak up sun and have a dip in the Sound or pool or show off their skills at the miniature golf course which provides golf-lovers with 18 challenging holes. Dare devils can hop on the many “thrill rides,” while those less adventurous or with young children can opt for the Family Rides or Kiddyland. Rockefeller State Park Preserve
On Saturday, May 7, visitors and residents of all ages can attend “I Love My Park Day” at the Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Pleasantville from 9:30am-12:30pm. As part of the popular event, non-native multiflora roses and privets are gradually being replaced by native flowering dogwood, buttonbush, witch hazel, winterberry, sweet pepperbush, ostrich fern, and wetland wildflowers along the path to Swan Lake. The Preserve is an idyllic spot for strolling, jogging, horseback riding, birding and fishing. Registration is required for I Love My Park Day. Westchester Magazine’s Wine & Food Festival
The 6th Annual Wine & Food Festival presented by Westchester Magazine continues to expand in size and scope. Taking place from June 8-12 in locations throughout the County, Westchester’s premiere culinary festival will see more than 100 top, local restaurants, serving up signature bites, drinks and demos for a great time to be had by all. With exclusive dinners, tastings and seminars hosted by well-known chefs and vintners, the Festival is an experience unlike any other. Fashion Exhibit at Lyndhurst Castle
Beginning June 17 and running through the end of September Lyndhurst Castle will hold a fashion exhibition – Defying Labels: New Roles New Clothes – which tells the story of the revolutionary changes in women’s roles from 1880s to 1940 as reflected in their clothes. The exhibition utilizes the evolving wardrobes of three remarkable women: philanthropist Helen Gould, Anna Gould, Duchess of Talleyrand, and former actress Edith Kingdon Gould, the daughters and daughter-in-law of railroad baron Jay Gould, who called Lyndhurst his home. With a focus on day wear, the exhibition highlights the development of the design attitudes and vocabulary that are direct precursors to modern dressing. LIGHTSCAPES
Running for 20 evenings through May, Historic Hudson Valley, the creators of the Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze, presents LIGHTSCAPES, a nighttime display of illuminated, original sculpture at Van Cortlandt Manor. Visitors will encounter 15-foot-tall Luna Moth creations, cross a drawbridge over the River of Light and watch “shadow dancing” in front of an interactive silhouette wall. A hospitality tent will offer organic sorbet from Blue Pig of Croton and homemade candy and baked goods from Geordane’s of Irvington.
