Dramatically simplifies and lowers the cost of field data collection

Bourne, MA (PRWEB) October 14, 2015

Onset, a world leader in data loggers, today announced the HOBO® MX2001, the industry’s first water level data logger designed for convenient wireless setup and download from mobile devices via Bluetooth Low Energy.

The MX2001 dramatically simplifies and lowers the cost of field data collection by providing wireless access to high-accuracy water level and temperature measurements right from a mobile phone or tablet. Researchers no longer need to take a laptop computer out to the field or pull data loggers out of a well to download data. And, no internet access is necessary; the logger and mobile device are all that’s required.

“The HOBO MX2001 was driven by the need in the market for faster and less-complicated data offload in the field,” said Paul Gannett, product marketing manager for Onset. “Users can offload these direct-read loggers while they remain in the well without having to remove well caps or pull anything up. And, using our free HOBOmobile™ app, they can easily configure the loggers from their phone or tablet in the field and view level data during deployment.”

David Light, a PhD student with the Department of Geology and Geography at West Virginia University, used the MX2001 logger to monitor water levels in flooding coal mines and mine spoil aquifers. He said, “The time reduction for downloading the MX2001 logger in our wells is significant, since most are 250 to 500 feet deep. The Bluetooth capability eliminates the need to remove the logger from the well and the threat of tangled cable.”

The HOBO MX2001 offers a number of additional features to streamline water level data collection. For example, it features a non-vented design for convenient and hassle-free deployment, an integrated barometric pressure sensor that eliminates the need to post-process data, and user-replaceable double-A batteries that last up to a year in the field. It also features a durable ceramic pressure sensor that can withstand harsh underwater environments, including saltwater and ice.

Easy logger setup and data management

Onset’s free HOBOmobile app makes it a snap to configure HOBO MX2001 water level loggers and manage the collected data in the field. Using a mobile phone or tablet, users can enter reference water levels, view level data, check logger status (a particular advantage during installation), share data files for analysis in spreadsheets, and store data in the cloud. Users can also select alternate logging modes, such as multiple-rate sampling, which allows faster sampling at critical times, like when pumping starts or stops.
