Nashville, Tennessee (PRWEB) August 31, 2015

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM), the nation’s medical professional association for physicians and allied health professionals dedicated to using lifestyle as a first treatment option, in conjunction with the Lifestyle Medicine Foundation, announced today the establishment of the Lifestyle Medicine Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards, with the inaugural presentation of both taking place during the CME accredited Lifestyle Medicine 2015, ACLM’s annual conference, set for November 1-4 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel in Nashville, TN. These awards have been established to recognize individuals and organizations that are making extraordinary contributions to the field of Lifestyle Medicine.

Nominations for both awards are being sought through September 30th. Those interested in submitting a nomination may do so via the online nomination form found on the American College of Lifestyle Medicine website.

“Presenting these awards is our way of recognizing some of the unsung heroes in healthcare who are working diligently to truly help transform it,” said ACLM Awards Committee Chair Sami Bég, MD. “These are individuals—both physicians and non-physicians—who not only realize the power of Lifestyle Medicine to help change today’s status quo, but who also understand the profound impact it can have on future generations. By recognizing these individuals and organizations, we hope to encourage and formally acknowledge leadership in the field of Lifestyle Medicine – the field we believe has the potential to become medicine’s Holy Grail.”

With the passing of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the advent of Accountable Care Organizations, and the re-introduction of the Patient Centered Medical Home, there is emphasis on moving from volume to value as a way to decrease healthcare costs. In light of the fact that as much as 80% of all healthcare spending in the U.S. is tied to the treatment of conditions rooted in poor lifestyle choices, there’s growing recognition of the science that overwhelmingly supports the efficacy of Lifestyle Medicine when used as a therapeutic intervention to prevent, treat, and even reverse chronic disease—thereby delivering significant value and dramatically improved outcomes.

"The Lifestyle Medicine Foundation is pleased to partner with our sister organization, the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, in creating and presenting the first formal awards in the field that many are now recognizing as the future of medicine,” said Marc Braman, MD, president of the Lifestyle Medicine Foundation. “We look forward to recognizing and expressing our gratitude to individuals who have given of themselves and pioneered a far superior kind of healthcare, both for healthcare professionals and the many millions we serve—a healthcare that treats the cause and has only positive side effects."
