The 2016 collection will depict ‘Treasured Memories: My Life, My Story’

Who:    Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, a museum of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, is accepting applications for the 2016 “Creativity Arkansas” collection.

When:        Submissions are being accepted Feb. 11, 2016, through March 29, 2016.

What:     The “Creativity Arkansas” collection began in 2008 and showcases artwork created by African American artists with a connection to Arkansas. The collection celebrates the history of the state through vivid works in a variety of media. Consistent with the mission of MTCC, the collection preserves and documents Arkansas history through visual arts. The 2016 theme is ‘Treasured Memories: My Life, My Story.’

Submission is free. Participants must be 18 years of age or older, who are native to or currently reside in Arkansas, whose work depicts the African American experience in Arkansas. Amateurs and professionals are eligible.

The collection was acquired in part by a grant from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council, funded by the Arkansas Real Estate Transfer Tax.

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, a museum of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, is dedicated to telling the history of African Americans in Arkansas from 1870 to the present, especially in the areas of politics, business and the arts. Other agencies of the Department of Arkansas Heritage include Arkansas Arts Council, Arkansas Historic Preservation, Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, Delta Cultural Center, Historic Arkansas Museum and Old State House Museum.
