Around 70% of global internet use is accessible via mobile devices and this trend is rising quickly. Moodle continues to enhance its Moodle Mobile App to support mobile learning, now accessible even in offline environments.

Today, Moodle – the world’s open source learning platform – released Moodle Mobile 3.1.3, complete with improvements and new features that make learning more accessible.
The Moodle Mobile App was first released in April 2013 in the Apple Store and Google Play and to date have seen a staggering 200% increase in app installations, confirming that mobile learning is the way of the future.
Juan Levya, Analyst Developer at Moodle HQ who is also leading the development of the Moodle Mobile App commented on the importance of accessibility in the mobile app for excellence learning experiences.
“With increased mobile use, Moodle has concentrated on making classrooms for all learners – in the K-12, university or workplaces – easily accessible as any other app on mobile devices,” said Mr Levya.
“One of the main features of Moodle mobile 3.1.3 – the offline support functionality – exemplifies this.”
“This feature allows users to participate in the majority of activities in the app when they are not connected to a network.”
Previously, the offline capability of in Moodle Mobile only extended to quizzes and SCORM.
With Moodle Mobile 3.1.3 learners can now private message other users, add a course note, complete a survey, create a new forum post or new wiki page and even complete an assignment offline.
“This feature will be of particular use to learners with limited internet access,” commented Mr Levya.
“Whether you live in areas with limited internet or are in situations with limited access, such as trying to complete an assignment while travelling, being offline is now not a barrier to accessing your study through your Moodle app.”
Other new improvements and features to the Moodle Mobile 3.1.3 also focusses on accessibility for all users.
Performance improvements to the app means that learners will be able to load courses faster in their Moodle sites, while the filtering option in forum threads allows users to display their messages by their preference.
“The Moodle Mobile team has used valuable user feedback to make these improvements and new features available,” said Mr Levya.
“We are pleased to increase the accessibility of mobile learning for all users by adding these improvements to our already popular existing features, including messaging functions, mobile notifications and quizzes.”
