MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in Cincinnati receives first place referral practice award from international veterinary organization. This prestigious award is the second in two years for MedVet’s growing group of emergency, critical care and specialty referral veterinary hospitals for companion animals.
Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) April 09, 2016
MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in Cincinnati has been named the 2016 AAHA-Accredited Referral Practice of the Year by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), an international veterinary organization that sets the standard for excellence in veterinary medicine.
MedVet Cincinnati received the award at the AAHA Austin 2016 Yearly Conference on March 31. This is the second MedVet hospital that has received the honor of Referral Practice of the Year. AAHA first began accrediting referral practices in 2008 and, since that time, MedVet has twice been honored with this award (Columbus 2014 and Cincinnati 2016).
Veterinary referral hospitals are staffed with board-certified specialty services and emergency/critical care for dogs and cats and function very much like a human hospital. General practice veterinarians commonly refer patients to referral specialty hospitals for after-hours emergencies, second opinions and/or advanced testing with board certified specialists.
MedVet Cincinnati houses a team of dedicated specialists in their 25,000 square foot state-of-the-art Medical & Cancer Center. They offer emergency, critical and specialty care and are open 24/7/365. The medical team is equipped with the most advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies available. MedVet Cincinnati’s team of board-certified specialists include services in Anesthesia & Analgesia, Cardiology, Critical Care, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Integrative Medicine, Internal Medicine, Interventional Medicine, Medical Oncology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Rehabilitation, and Surgery. MedVet’s dedicated Cancer Center is home to an entirely integrated team of oncology experts providing surgical, medical, and radiation treatment options for pets with cancer.
“Winning the 2016 AAHA-Accredited Referral Practice of the Year is an amazing achievement and reflects the incredible commitment to excellent standards of practice by each and every individual in the hospital,” states Eric R. Schertel, DVM, PhD, Diplomate ACVS who serves as MedVet’s President.
AAHA provides accreditation to companion animal hospital standards based on approximately 900 criteria that go above and beyond state and provincial regulations. To receive the prestigious honor of AAHA-Accredited Referral Practice of the Year, hospitals are evaluated on their extensive and quality standards as well as their most recent accreditation score, mission and vision, practice team composition, continuing education and training, community service, and more. Since AAHA members are known for their excellence, the award is highly competitive.
Accreditation is a voluntary commitment that practices make to their clients and patients. AAHA accredited hospitals are recognized amongst the most progressive and highest quality of veterinary hospitals. In fact, MedVet Columbus has maintained accreditation for over 25 years.
The AAHA-Accredited Referral Practice of the Year Award is designed to recognize the outstanding achievements of accredited veterinary practice teams, along with celebrating the ongoing advancements in veterinary medicine.
Not all veterinary hospitals are accredited. Nearly 60 percent of the pet-owning public believes their veterinary hospital is accredited when it is not. In actuality, only 12-15% of animal hospitals in the United States and Canada are accredited by AAHA. AAHA-accredited veterinary hospitals hold themselves to a high standard of care and strive to deliver excellent care for animals.
About AAHA
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), is the only organization in the United States and Canada that accredits companion animal hospitals based on standards that meet or exceed state regulations. Established in 1933, the Association is well-known among veterinarians for its leadership in the profession, high standards for veterinary practices and pet health care, and most importantly, its accreditation of companion-animal practices.
