Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) March 07, 2015

Chris Berndt, a 24-year-old undergraduate business management student at Kendall College, has been selected to attend the eighth annual Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) at the University of Miami, March 6–8, 2015. Berndt was chosen from a pool of students in the Laureate International Universities network, who were nominated based on academic results and demonstrated experience leading projects that make a positive, long-term impact in their local communities. Berndt joins three additional students from Costa Rica, Brazil and Morocco.

Chris Berndt was selected for his Clinton Global Initiative University commitment, Generation Now. Generation Now focuses on empowering inner-city high school youth—teaching them about nutrition, health, skills training, mentoring and goal-setting. Chris plans to graduate later this year and would like to continue to focus on improving education in the United States.

“Chris is such an inspiring young leader in our school and we are very proud that he was selected,” said Emily Williams Knight, president of Kendall College. “His Generation Now project demonstrates a keen sensitivity to some of the challenges we face in Chicago’s communities and aligns with our mission to not only nurture the minds of our graduates, but to instill in them a sense of empowerment in the role they play as responsible citizens and agents of change.”

In addition to attending the event, students will act as anchors during an exclusive tri-lingual broadcast between 10 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. Eastern on March 9, 2015, which will feature interviews with more than 20 plenary speakers and special guests. An international audience of tens of thousands of students and invited conference attendees are anticipated to watch at laureatelive.com and join a conversation on Twitter at @LaureateIntlU.

“These four students demonstrate a spirit of social entrepreneurship that is valued and celebrated across the Laureate network” said Douglas L. Becker, founder, chairman and CEO of Laureate Education, Inc. “This is another example of Laureate’s commitment to creating unique experiences to connect, inform and inspire students around the world.”
