Fourth Annual JADPRO Live at APSHO Conference Brings Advanced Practitioners in Oncology Together in Nation’s Capital
Huntington, NY (PRWEB) July 16, 2016
This election season, an estimated 700 advanced practitioners—nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, pharmacists, and other oncology health care professionals—will convene near Washington, DC, to learn about the latest advances in clinical cancer care at the 2016 JADPRO Live at APSHO conference.
JADPRO Live is a medical conference inspired by the Journal of the Advanced Practitioner in Oncology. This year’s meeting will take place from November 3–6 at the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, Maryland.
“The fourth annual JADPRO Live conference is packed with four days of practice-changing information specifically tailored for the advanced practitioner,” said Pamela Hallquist Viale, RN, MS, CNS, ANP, President of the Board of Directors for the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology. “Our novel collaborative educational approach involves interdisciplinary lecturers describing the latest in cancer science and care, all with the role of the advanced practitioner front and center.”
“Previous attendees have praised our conference format, topics, and the validation they receive here for their work as advanced practitioners,” added Ms. Viale. “This conference impacts practice.”
JADPRO Live at APSHO is the largest professional medical conference for advanced practitioners in hematology and oncology. Against the backdrop of our nation’s capital and in the spirit of the national cancer “Moonshot” initiative, the theme of this year’s meeting is “United in Practice. United in Care.”
The upcoming conference includes a diverse agenda that encourages collaboration and discussion. Popular pre-conference workshops address the challenges of palliative care, the evolving landscape of clinical trials, and how to be an effective speaker.
The keynote session features an interview with Dr. Lucy Kalanithi, widow of Dr. Paul Kalanithi, neurosurgeon and author of the New York Times bestseller When Breath Becomes Air. The interview will focus on their experience as a caregiver and a patient, and will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience, as well as a book signing.
The main sessions consist of didactic presentations about new strategies to help manage patients with solid tumors or hematologic malignancies.
Presentations will review best practices for a variety of patient cases, such as the management of patients on immunotherapy or with infectious complications, addressing common dilemmas advanced practitioners face.
In addition, panel sessions will facilitate discussion on topics such as measuring the productivity and contributions of the advanced practitioner to the team.
One of the most popular sessions from previous conferences focuses on newly approved agents in oncology and hematology. This year’s session will include discussions about the pharmacology and indications of medications approved in 2016, recommended monitoring and management of toxicities associated with these agents, and the impact of these therapies in advanced practice.
