The Honorable State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and Florida National University President/CEO Dr. Maria Cristina Regueiro will collaborate with the Dr. Jose Regueiro Foundation, Inc. and the POWERHOUSE Human Trafficking Planning Steering Committee to host the First Annual “Stop Human Trafficking” Walk Friday, January 29, 2016 at the FNU campus, 4425 W. 20th Avenue (Jose Regueiro Avenue), Hialeah, Florida, 33012 at 10:00 AM.
Florida is third in the nation for human trafficking incidents! Additionally, according to the Department of Homeland Security, “Human trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery involving the illegal trade of people for exploitation or commercial gain.” Anyone can be a victim of this modern form of slavery: men, women, and children (some as young as 11 years of age) are the victims of human trafficking, and it is becoming an increasingly prevalent problem on the local, national, and global levels!
“It takes a village to combat the savagery of human trafficking. We must build strong partnerships with all community resources to effectively eliminate this unthinkable modern day slavery,” commented State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “This event hopes to bring community leaders, service providers and local, state and national law enforcement agencies together in our continued determination and mission to eradicate this scourge that affects so many young and promising lives.”
In observance of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, the First Annual “Stop Human Trafficking” Walk will be held (rain or shine) at FNU’s Hialeah Campus located at 4425 W 20th Avenue (Jose Regueiro Avenue), Hialeah, FL 33012 on Friday, January 29, 2016.
The event will include a one-mile symbolic walk, beginning at 10 a.m. and will also feature illustrious speakers, live music, delectable snacks and family-friendly activities for the community.
“We want to invite the public at large to attend this very significant free WALK in an effort to show a community’s CALL TO ACTION to STOP Human Trafficking not only in Florida, but throughout our Global Domain,” stated Dr. Regueiro. “Don’t miss the opportunity to participate and let our collective voice be heard against Human Trafficking.”
