Connecticut Dermatology Group (CDG), a dermatology practice in Norwalk, Stamford, and Milford, is now offering Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy for hair restoration and tissue regeneration in men and women.

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) July 21, 2016

Connecticut Dermatology Group is excited to announce Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy for hair loss and facial rejuvenation. According to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, an estimated 35 million men and 21 million women in the United States experience hair loss. Hair loss is a real problem, and now CDG has the fix.

PRP has been used for over two decades for wound and tissue healing. Recent scientific research and technology has recognized that PRP is an all-natural autologous stimulator for hair restoration and tissue regeneration. Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells and growth factors that assist in hair growth. This unique treatment option is perfect for patient's with mild thinning that want to restore affected areas with fuller, denser hair or for patients with more severe hair loss that do not want to undergo surgical interventions. The injections are created using patients' own blood that is spun down and combined with Selphyl®, a natural filler that when combined with PRP will stimulate collagen production and cell proliferation in treated areas. Not all PRP therapy is the same, and thus, CDG will be utilizing Selphyl's unique platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) system to deliver the purest and most efficacious platelet therapy to it’s Connecticut patients.

“Hair loss is extremely common for both men and women and often has a devastating effect on one’s confidence and self-esteem” said board certified dermatologist Dr. Frank Pinto. “It is important for people to know that there is now a safe and effective non-surgical treatment option for certain types of hair loss, making it more likely than ever to restore thinning areas with fuller, denser hair.”

PRP is a proactive therapeutic option for males and females experiencing hair loss. It is performed monthly for three to four months, resulting in natural regrowth of hair through stimulation of collagen and cell production. PRP has attracted attention in several medical applications because of its ability to promote wound healing via activation of platelet derived proteins, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor (TGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), insulin-like growth factor (IGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF) and interleukin (IL)-1. It is hypothesized that growth factors released from platelets may act on stem cells in the bulge area of the hair follicles, stimulating the development of new follicles and promoting neovascularization that promotes hair growth and tissue regeneration.

Individual PRP results vary with each patient but preliminary studies indicate patients respond to PRP therapy. PRP is an emerging non-surgical based therapy for natural hair follicle stimulation for thinning hair. Larger clinical studies are pending but the current medical literature contains numerous optimistic results. Although a few controlled studies exist, anecdotal and case reports are the primary sources reflecting success with PRP therapy.
