Amherst, NY (PRWEB) October 12, 2016

Clearview Resolution Services is launching an educational seminar to teach people how to protect themselves from falling prey to collections scams and fraud. The seminar will be from 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Knights of Columbus, 1530 Kenmore Ave., Buffalo, NY, 14216, where complimentary refreshments and snacks will be served. Key speakers will include Carol Rouse, Clearview’s director of human resources, along with Benjamin Thompson, vice president of consumer protection at Clearview.

The seminar will cover methods on how to protect against internet and telephone scams. Speakers will discuss steps to take when filing complaints within one’s jurisdiction and which documentation to request when getting a questionable, unknown call from someone who seems untrustworthy. Anyone who shares concerns about fraud and scam protection is encouraged to attend the seminar.

Collections Scams and Fraud, The New “Catfish Era”

Currently, the internet has become the No. 1 method people use to manage their lives, whether communicating through social media, managing finances, shopping, dating, or applying for credit or a loan, technology makes it as easy as a click of a mouse.

That being said, between blogging, business reviews and complaints, warning bulletins, the Better Business Bureau and the CFPB, people can easily find almost all of the information needed to help stay protected from fraud or decide which seller on Amazon to buy from.

However, it can be hard to spot certain scams. For example, an unknown caller may identify himself as an officer, stating that he or she is from the government. The caller might accuse the person of committing some form of financial crime concerning something the person has no recollection of. The caller may say that in order to make the problem go away, all the person has to do is pay an amount of money over the phone using a credit card. Shockingly, many people pay out of fear in these scenarios. Many people are victims of fraud each day, and although the specifics of the scam may differ, there are red flags to watch out for that can be useful in any situation.

To learn more about fraud protection, join Clearview for the seminar on Oct. 17.
