Carlton Landing, OK (PRWEB) June 07, 2016

Grilling and smoking meat is a favorite summer culinary pastime at Carlton Landing, Oklahoma’s newest town and lakeside resort on Lake Eufaula. This season, Carlton Landing is taking it up a notch with the inaugural “Smoke on the Water” BBQ Competition, poised to become one of the preeminent barbecue competitions in the region. Taking place on Saturday, June 18th and sanctioned by the prestigious Kansas City Barbecue Society (“KCBS”), the event is attracting up to 35 teams from Oklahoma and surrounding states, competing for $6,000 in prize money and awards.

“Not only is this a great way to celebrate Carlton Landing’s affinity for summer barbecuing, but ‘Smoke on the Water’ promises to be a fun festivity for dads and their families on Father’s Day weekend,” says Grant Humphreys, Town Founder of Carlton Landing. “We’re excited to attract everyone from professional pit masters to backyard BBQ amateurs. In addition to great food, we’ll feature several live music artists and food trucks offering all sorts of great food and drinks.”

There is no entry fee for the public to attend this family-friendly festivity. The day will begin with the Carlton Landing Volunteer Fire Department serving a pancake breakfast at 7:00 a.m. Then, starting at 9:00 a.m., makers and crafters from around the region will show their wares in a pop-up shop village along the waterfront. Food trucks such as Mama Tigs Wood Fired Pizza, I Don’t Know BBQ and Bud’s on the Lake will begin serving food and drinks at 11:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day. International craft beer award winner Prairie Artisan Ales and Choc Beer will also set up a beer garden to beat the summer heat. Then, the competing teams, who arrive on Thursday or Friday and will cook through Friday night, will present their world class BBQ to more than 30 KCBS judges from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Live music, including Tulsa’s Jerry Cantrell and Muskogee’s Cody Medlin, will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Off the Hook Fish House, where patrons can grab cold beer and some top-notch, fried catfish. The BBQ award ceremony will take place on the lakefront at 3:30 p.m.

ABOUT CARLTON LANDING

Carlton Landing is Oklahoma’s newest town. Grant and Jen Humphreys, the lakeside community’s first residents, founded the community in 2011. The town occupies one of Lake Eufaula’s most picturesque areas, with sandy beaches, towering cliffs, beautiful woodlands and some of the lake’s finest water quality. Famed planner and architect Andreas Duany, known for designing the Rosemary Beach and Seaside communities on the Florida panhandle, crafted the Carlton Landing master plan with Humphreys in 2008. Inspired by the New Urbanism movement—which holds that life, work and play are all central to a community’s vitality—Carlton Landing is the first development of its kind to become a distinct municipality. The master plan includes schools, a waterfront chapel, Nature Center, community parks, trails, and a town center with restaurants and shops. Plans call for more than 3,000 homes, a private residence club and a generational development timeline. For more information, visit http://www.carltonlanding.com.
