Jennifer Giustra-Kozek, author of the bestselling book Healing Without Hurting wants to issue a medical alert to warn about the harmful effects of serving convenient holiday foods, like instant mashed potatoes, on children with ADHD, Attention Deficit and mood disorders, for all healthcare workers and parents of children this holiday season.

They tend to be loaded with preservatives such as sodium bisulfate, BHA/BHT, MSG, hydrogenated “GMO” soybean oil and corn syrup, maltodextrin (sometimes wheat-derived, causing concern for people with gluten intolerance), dairy products, and sometimes sodium acid pyrophosphate and dipotassium phosphate. Instant mashed potatoes also include high sodium content and artificial flavors.”
Well known Food Babe blogger Vani Hari agrees with Kozek stating in a blog post about the chemical horrors in classic Thanksgiving meals “Sodium Bisulfite and many of the other preservatives that are found in Betty Crocker’s Creamy Butter Potatoes, Hungry Jack’s Mashed Potatoes are preservatives that no one should be consuming. BHA for example, is linked to cancer, fertility issues and kidney problems and is considered a carcinogen by U.S. Health and Human Services, yet the FDA still allows it in our food.”
