The first SEMPO Global Awards, SEMPO Cities Leadership Awards, and SEMPO Spotlight Awards were presented.

SEMPO, the world's largest nonprofit organization serving the search and digital marketing industry and the marketing professionals engaged in it, has held its first global in-person event, the SEMPO 2016 Member Forum in San Diego, March 10-11, where the first SEMPO Global Awards, SEMPO Cities Leadership Awards, and SEMPO Spotlight Awards were presented.

For this inaugural event, SEMPO members joined their digital marketing peers for a program that provoked progressive thinking, offered comparative discussions about new tools and techniques, and promoted sharing of search marketing and social media best practices, as well as delivering ample networking opportunities. The keynote speaker was Nicolas Darveau-Garneau, Director of Performance Marketing at Google.

A highlight of the conference was the presentation of the first SEMPO Global Awards. The recipients, who showed fresh insight and/or contributed significant research towards execution of meaningful best practices in search marketing, were chosen by SEMPO members from among eight finalists:

Best Paid Search Campaign — Digital campaign to increase brand awareness for Scheller College of Business, Nebo

Best SEO Campaign — Home run for Monkey Sports, Geary LSF

Best Use of Technology — HREFLang Builder, Back Azimuth Consulting

The first annual SEMPO Cities Leadership Awards were also presented, honoring the people whose efforts made SEMPO Cities Month in October 2015 so successful:

Skyscraper Award – Corey Morris, Kansas City, Kansas

Highrise Award – Pete Prestipino, Chicago

Highrise Award — Carlos Guzmán, Mexico City

Two special SEMPO Spotlight Awards were given, in conjunction with Gridsum, to outstanding search and digital marketers in China:

Best International Innovative Big Data Application: Jingdong

Best International Big Data Marketing Practice: vipabc

The conference was generously supported by sponsors, including Bing, Google, Gridsum, Marin Software and Yahoo, who gained visibility for their organizations, demonstrated their support for SEMPO in facilitating the international exchange of information relating to search marketing, and contributed to the success of SEMPO and the Member Forum.
