The nominations for the 56th Grammy Awards were unveiled at a star-studded concert last night at L.A.'s Nokia Theatre.
Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Lorde were amongst the performers.
Jay Z led the field with nine nominations mainly in the rap categories. Newcomer Lorde is recognised in record and song of the year categories in her first round of Grammy attention, and her album, 'Pure Heroine' was also nominated for pop vocal album. Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams' 'Get Lucky', Imagine Dragons' 'Radioactive', Bruno Mars' 'Locked Out of Heaven', and Robin Thicke featuting T.I. & Pharrell's 'Blurred Lines' are all up against Lorde in the record category.
Pharrell Williams receives seven nods along with Lamar, Mackelmore & Lewis, and Justin Timberlake. Jay Z is amont the album of the year nominees for his guest role on Lamar's album which also incorporated guest spots by Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre, Drake, Jay Rock and MC Eiht and Anna Wise.
In the country field, Taylor Swift's “Red” was the most eclectic-sounding album of her career, but was deemed country enough to warrant an album nod in that category for one of her four nominations.
