American-born, Austria-based singer-songwriter Matt Boroff takes fans on a musical journey through wind-swept deserts to the edge of the abyss with the help of well-known musicians in his third studio album ‘Grand Delusion’. Recorded at 11AD studios, the album features producer and multi-instrumentalist Alain Johannes, former Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons and vocalist Mark Lanegan.
Exploring the theme of ‘where is love in this new world and does it still have the power to save us from ourselves?’, ‘Grand Delusion’ reveals questions without providing an answer, forcing listeners to investigate the themes further. With Boroff’s distinct baritone layered above a pulsating grooves, screaming guitars and flickering organ notes, the alternative sound challenges musical genres. The emotive lyrics paint a bleak picture of a world where self-deception has reached critical mass: the hostile bark of nationalism, war-mongering and greed are just a few of the things that might challenge your faith in humanity.
Boroff’s musical history stretches back to the end of the eighties whereby he shared a stage with artists such as Nirvana and Kyuss. After his high school band dissolved in 1995, he focused on developing his song writing skills and founded the power trio Matt Boroff & The Mirrors with drummer Little Konzett and bassist Rolf Kersting. The group toured Europe extensively, sharing the bills with titans such as Queens Of The Stone Age, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Calexico and many others. However in 2010 Boroff began working again as a solo artist, releasing two solo LPs, one EP and now ‘Grand Delusion’ set to release May 5th. Matt will be performing a headline show in London at the Old Blue Last February 6th.
