Oxbridge Academy’s Romello Tarver is setting up his future with football, and it starts with picking a school to play for his junior and senior years.

Tarver feels the best fit is with the Thunderwolves. The 2018 defensive end transferred from West Boca Raton in the offseason.

“I felt like Oxbridge was a better opportunity for my education and nutrition,” Tarver said about Oxbridge Academy of the Palm Beaches, which is a private college preparatory high school in West Palm Beach, Fla. “The weight room program is great too.”

The 6’4″ DE/OL has already gained 30 pounds since the offseason began, weighing in at 235 pounds. With the gained weight, Tarver is also making sure he is as quick as ever.

“I’ve been practicing on getting to the ball quicker,” Tarver said. “I am progressing.”

Tarver was able to showcase his skills this summer at numerous individual camps, such as FAU and FIU. He showed his diversity by dominating on both sides of the ball and taking on all comers at the left tackle and defensive end positions.

New Oxbridge Academy head coach Brendan Kent is looking to play Tarver in both positions.

“Coach Kent is a blue collar coach,” Tarver said. “He wants everything done with 100 percent effort, and he will push you to the limit that you think you can not reach.”

Tarver, who currently has a 3.2 GPA, attended a few schools before settling at Oxbridge. The rising star said his transfer experience hasn’t been a totally smooth one.

“I had to start from scratch and work my way up,” Tarver said. “I had to prove myself to my teammates and my coaches that I’m worthy of a starting position. It was also hard to transfer from a public school to an academic school. It took a few weeks to adjust, but I’m fine now.”

With the transfer move behind him, Tarver is looking to lead the Timberwolves, just as he did when he played for West Boca Raton.

“Some seniors graduated, so I have to pick up on the leadership role,” Tarver said.

Tarver is already being looked at by many colleges, including the likes of Virginia Tech, FIU, NC State, and FAU. He also took an unofficial visit to Georgia recently.

“I am looking for a school that fits my playing style and a facility that makes me feel like home,” Tarver said.

Tarver wants to take his team deep into the Class 3A playoffs this season. But he knows that Oxbridge Academy will likely have to get by American Heritage (Delray Beach) to reach the 3A state title game this December.

Tarver’s personal goals are influenced by a role model of his.

“I want to make First Team Offense and First Team Defense on both sides of the ball in Palm Beach County,” Tarver said. “I would like to dedicate my season to Greg Bryant Jr. He inspired me in many ways.”

Tarver said he’s very confident in his decision to play for Oxbridge Academy.

“I found my home, and I love Oxbridge,” Tarver said. “No more transferring for me!”

We will see how Tarver and the Timberwolves do this season under Kent.
