Clayton Hotel Chiswick

The Clayton Hotel Chiswick on West London’s busy Chiswick High Road is undergoing a major refurbishment and extension, resulting in a bright, spacious and modern new look, along with state-of-the-art meetings and events facilities and a total of 227 upgraded deluxe bedrooms.

The hotel, formerly the Chiswick Moran Hotel, was acquired by Dalata Hotel Group as part of a €452.3m [£324m] purchase of nine hotels from Moran Bewley’s Hotel Group in February 2015. It was rebranded with the Clayton name in May and is now one of 13 hotels in the group’s Clayton portfolio.

The project, due for completion in February 2016, began in June 2014, with the hotel being fully operational throughout. Over £20m has been spent on the upgrade, which is designed to make the four-star standard hotel one of West London’s premier locations for events and meetings including conferences, board meetings, corporate events and weddings.

London-born Thomas Doyle is the newly appointed general manager at the hotel. Thomas joins from Jurys Inn, where he worked his way up to become general manager of the company’s Islington property.

“My family are originally from Wexford, but my father and his brother ran a small hotel in Richmond, West London for 40 years. Growing up around the hotel gave me my love of the hospitality industry,” Thomas said.

“The renovation of the Clayton Chiswick Hotel is a very exciting opportunity for me and an important chapter in the history of the hotel,” he added.

An extension and refurbishment of the hotel’s meetings and events facility gives it a dedicated area of the hotel with its own entrance and foyer, eight meeting rooms of various sizes and the impressive Chiswick Ballroom, which seats up to 350 people.

The extensive project has included the addition of 104 bedrooms and the upgrading of existing bedrooms, including vibrant deluxe rooms, comfortable executive rooms and spacious family rooms, all with en suites featuring high-end sanitary ware. For something a little more extravagant and luxurious there are the spacious junior suites and a king suite boasting a large king-sized bed and feature bathroom.

Improvements to the hotel also include a new bar and restaurant and a lighter, more spacious reception and seating area giving guests a comfortable place to sit, meet and spend time with free access to Wi-Fi throughout.

The main contractor on the project was HOC Construction, with the architects being Project Orange and Cunningham McLean Partnership managing the interior design aspects.

Further appointments to the new management team at the hotel include head chef Gaurav Puri. Gaurav previously worked at Claridge’s as a sous chef. His career has also included positions at The Berkeley, The Langham London, and with the Gordon Ramsay Group.

Lukasz Klosiewicz has been appointed meetings and events manager, moving from Clayton Crown Hotel in Cricklewood.

Gaurav Dhaul becomes director of sales, joining from Grange Hotels where he was sales manager, while Lauren Cooper joins as HR manager, from Accor New Zealand.

When asked how important it was to be involved in the hotel project, Thomas said:

“It’s extremely exciting for me, and my team, to be a part of it. We will certainly have something to be proud of and a hotel that will be extremely appealing to the local business park and the wider West London community.”

Alan McClure, Design Director at Cunningham McLean, also provided Premier Hospitality with some key information on the developments. Alan said:

“Rift oak timberworks with a grey finish features as a key element of the hotel, accompanied by bespoke carpets in warm, rich colours such as greys, oranges and bronze tones, in-keeping with the Clayton brand palette. Sophisticated and beautiful Italian marble flooring named White Birch is in place throughout various parts of the building, as well as attractive feature wall coverings and copper tones that we added for warmth and visual appeal.

To summarise, Alan said:

“It was great working with the team and it is great to be associated with the client especially with a new brand on the marketplace. What is quite special about the hotel is the fact that there was bespoke design work and joinery, essentially everything was custom-made. Also being given the opportunity to showcase what we can do – well that’s always exciting.”
