Hailed as a huge success, with over 90 per cent occupancy rates since opening in June, and very positive feedback from guests, the new Village Urban Resort Hotel in Glasgow is certainly off to an impressive start.

“We’ve been very busy with over 90 per cent occupancy since opening – our guests are loving it,” said Jamie Stevens, general manager of Village Urban Resorts Glasgow.

The project to build the hotel was carried out by Marshall Construction.

Following a £21m investment and creating 150 jobs, the hotel plays a key role in the redevelopment of the city’s former Garden Festival site.

As the third Village property to arrive in Scotland, the Glasgow hotel follows hot on the heels of Aberdeen, which opened in December 2014 and Edinburgh in January 2015.

Providing accommodation to support The Hydro Arena, the newest addition to the Village Urban Resorts portfolio continues with the brand’s distinctive ‘black box’ design and has been integrated with the wider Pacific Quay masterplan, which includes plans for further retail, business and residential development in the area.

Clad in blue tinted glass and black metal composite panels with a flat roof, the four storey building incorporates a ground floor terrace housing a coffee shop, pub, restaurant and reception.

The hotel includes a whole host of facilities including 120 bedrooms, a state of the art health and fitness club, the Verve Grill restaurant and The Public House bar, a 20m swimming pool, the Viva Urban Spa, a Starbucks Coffee Shop, and a meetings and events ‘Hub.’

The hotel’s contemporary bedrooms all boast free Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions and modern furnishings including desks, as well as bathrooms with rainfall showers. Guests can choose to upgrade to one of the 17 UpperDeck rooms and enjoy an oasis of relaxation complete with Sealy Sweet Dreams beds and Bose speaker docks.

The fitness club includes a 20m heated swimming pool, steam room and sauna, whirlpool spa, state-of-the-art gym with the latest cardio and resistance training equipment, a spinning studio with 40 bikes and an exercise studio offering a variety of different classes. There are also comfortable changing rooms with plenty of showers.

With comfortable seating and big screen entertainment, Verve Grill offers excellent food and service to match, set in stylish surroundings. The menu includes steaks, burgers and other grilled meat dishes as well as a number of specials. The Public House is a classic sports bar serving up traditional ‘pub grub’ including steak pie and fish and chips.

Viva Urban Spa offers a relaxing escape from the busy city, with a wide variety of spa treatments including massages, body treatments and facials.

For events, weddings and meetings, the Hub offers 7,707 square feet (716 square meters) of flexible space with room capacity for up to 300 Facilities include state-of-the-art air conditioned meeting rooms, with plasma or projector screens, plus a fully stocked conference café and breakout area.

A pedestrian area comprising high quality paving is situated at the front of the hotel, linking to Pacific Drive and the pedestrian boulevard.

264 car parking spaces are provided to the west and south of the hotel building, with the vehicular access to the south of the site. The parking area and site boundaries are landscaped.

Jamie Stevens said:

“The third Village Urban Resorts in Scotland is in a superb location, so very close to the SSE Hydro – already rated since its opening in October 2013 as one of the world’s top entertainment venues. Over the years, there have been many companies which have set up home on the banks of the River Clyde and there is still much development to come in the area.  VUR Glasgow has ‘everything under one roof’ and my team is so excited to be welcoming the local community, businesses and leisure guests into our dynamic ‘black box’.”
