Based on Chancellors Road, Cloughoge in Co. Down, Felix O’Hare Ltd is a leading construction contractor with a vast wealth of experience.
Established for over a hundred years the company has been involved in a diverse range of projects, from swimming pools through to railway schemes.
A significant project for Felix O’Hare was the award-winning Portadown Railway Station project, which was implemented on behalf of Translink. The project was completed with Felix O’Hare as the main contractor and RPP Architects Ltd providing architectural services.
The Portadown Railway Station comprised the upgrade and refurbishment of the existing station, in order to make it more accessible to all users, from motorists, cyclists and taxi users, to bus passengers and of course pedestrians. The station now boasts a fully interlinked bus centre and provides a much more customer friendly service for local people and visitors alike.
A new main entrance was introduced as part of the project, alongside a new waiting area on the platforms, a cafeteria and shop. Staff accommodation, a new footbridge, passenger lifts and the upgrading of signal facilities rounded out the project.
Such was the success of the project, that it was awarded a Commendation by The Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA).
Another significant project for Felix O’Hare Ltd is an £8 million project to construct a modern swimming pool building with associated car park facilities at the long awaited Newry Leisure Centre. The project takes place at Rooney’s Meadow and incorporates Frank Curran Park and Jennings Park in Newry.
Construction work commenced on the project on 12th August 2013 and is currently scheduled to reach completion at the end of 2014. Once complete the project will see Felix O’Hare Ltd install a state-of-the-art swimming pool building which will include an eight-lane, 25 metre competition pool and a two-lane, 13 meter training pool.
Felix O’Hare Ltd will also install a moveable floor on the eight-lane competition pool which will provide greater flexibility to the services that the leisure centre can provide. Meanwhile, solar thermal panels are being introduced to heat the water, a heat recovery system will be installed, a UV pool treatment plant will be built and rain water harvesting will be incorporated.
The Newry Leisure Centre project is being implemented by Newry and Mourne District Council. The design of the facility meets Disability Sports NI excellence in accessibility standards.
Speaking about the project at its launch in 2013, Mayor Michael Ruane, said:
“Operationally and aesthetically this new swimming pool will be a building which will attract young and old into an area where the activity of swimming can be enjoyed in a safe and controlled environment and where associated sports like canoeing and water polo can also be promoted.
“The Council has also been assured by Governing Bodies that this new building will be used for swimming galas and other swimming competitions delivered by Swim Ulster and Swim Ireland.”
Demonstrating attention to detail, efficiency and dedication, Felix O’Hare Ltd is a contractor with the ability to tackle a range of jobs. The contractor was chosen for the Newry Leisure Centre project due to its excellent track record on past projects.
