Ross Stores, Inc. has agreed to pay a $3.9 million civil penalty and implement internal compliance improvements for failing to report drawstrings in children’s upper outerwear, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Gildan Acquires New York Screen Printer, Honduras Factory

Gildan Activewear (UPIC: GILDA381) has announced that it will acquire screen printer New Buffalo Shirt Factory, Inc. in Clarence, New York, and its production factory in Honduras. The deal is valued at approximately $7 million and is expected to close soon.

Equipment Malfunction Temporarily Interrupts Operations At Gordon Sinclair

A compressor issue that resulted in overheating and a subsequent power shut-off to accommodate repairs has only slightly affected order processing at Gordon Sinclair (UPIC: GORDON66) in New Hyde Park, New York. Rachel Halpern with Gordon Sinclair says the supplier’s operations were minimally affected by the power loss and any orders not processed today will be processed tomorrow. While computers were still down as of press time, Halpern said staff will put in extra time to ensure orders are sent in time.

Las Vegas, Nevada-based supplier Visstun (UPIC: VISSTUN) and Digispec (UPIC: DIGISPEC) has expanded its team of sales counselors by bringing on Lisa Acosta and Paige Bousley.

As part of a restructuring of its sales force and a transition from multi-line to direct representation, Oxnard, California-based supplier ETS Express (UPIC: ETSE), Inc. has hired two new regional sales managers: Cristina Ysselstein will cover northern California and Jeff Hinds will be in charge of the northeast region. Changes to the structure of the in- house sales team are taking place as well. ETS has brought in Derek Hansen as strategic accounts manager to help update internal systems and build relationships with existing accounts.

Jamie Cimino has been appointed vice president of sales and marketing, promotional products division, for the supplier WebbCompany (UPIC: WEBBCO) in Eagen, Minnesota. Cimino comes to Webb with 25 years of experience owning and operating Canyon Outback Leather Goods (UPIC: canyon), a supplier in the promotional products industry.

Artistic Toy (UPIC: ARTSTOY) has added Kelsey Kalapay to its staff. Kalapay, who has a degree in marketing from Kutztown University, joins the Allentown, Pennsylvania, supplier as its new marketing assistant.

R.S. Owens & Co., Inc. (UPIC: RSOWENS) has hired Kenneth Tatela as the Chicago, Illinois, supplier’s manufacturing manager. Tatela will manage R.S. Owens’ Chicago production facility and will look for ways to increase efficiency and shorten lead times in every department.

Prime Resources Corp. (UPIC: PRIME) has promoted Marcus Sweeney to national sales manager. Sweeney has been in the industry for close to 20 years, and has worked with Prime as a national accounts manager since 2010. In his new role, he will work to grow sales on a national level while continuing to manage his existing group of accounts in Canada.

Vantage Apparel Holds Annual Blood Drive

Supplier Vantage Apparel (UPIC: vantage) in Avenel, New Jersey, hosted its yearly blood drive on June 13 in support of the Blood Center of New Jersey in East Orange. More than two dozen Vantage associates participated in the event, helping to donate almost 25 pints of blood. Every three pints of blood collected will be able to save the life of one person in need.
