As someone who plays a lot of games, I also hear a lot of their soundtracks. And while the majority are at least good and serve to complement the action on the screen, there are a few that really stick with me. The Donut County soundtrack is one of them.

The game is available on almost every platform—Switch, PS4, iPad, you name it—and pretty damn affordable too (I paid like $12 on Switch). It’s a lighthearted, albeit searing, look at the pitfalls of capitalism through the use of actual pits. It’s great.

But it’s made that much greater by the soundtrack from artist Daniel Koestner (with some help from Ben Esposito), whose approach reminds me of Bibio’s finest work. That’s high praise, if you’re familiar with Bibio of course, and it’s made all the more better by the fact that you don’t need to even play the game to enjoy this music. Yeah, it’s that good.

You can listen to standout track “Garbage Day” below and listen to the whole thing on Spotify or wherever you stream music. Buy it on vinyl at iam8bit.
