The poor and ‘dying’ people of Ajikobi Village in Kwara Central Senatorial District, have expressed loyalty to their illustrious son and embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki, come 2019, despite languishing in poverty and hunger.

When Post-Nigeria paid a sudden visit to Saraki’s Ajikobi village and his family house, built by his late father, Dr Abubakar Saraki, the sprawling mansion was surrounded by ramshackle houses, showcasing the depth of poverty prevailing in the land.

Instead of hurling insults and attacks on Saraki who was a two term Governor of the State, and now the number three citizen in Nigeria, most of the villagers expressed confidence in their son.

“We are committed to Saraki’s course. His ambition is our ambition. His late father was a source of inspiration to us. No matter what happen, we the people of Ajikobi will be loyal to Bukola Saraki till death,” a villager said.

Post-Nigeria’s investigation revealed that Saraki’s dynasty factor, remains strong in Kwara State politics, even after the death of the grandmaster of Kwara politics, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki.

After his training as a Medical Doctor, Saraki made his foray into politics in Ilorin, and has remained an idol in Ajikobi and its environs.

“Here we worship Saraki like god. You dare not make any derogatory remark against him, or you risk being lynched,’’ an Okada man who took Post-Nigeria’s correspondent to Saraki’s family house in Ajikobi stated.

As Post-Nigeria interacted informally with many of the villagers, it was discovered that the Senate President has assumed the role of a godfather in the harmonious State of Kwara.

Looking round the vicinity, our correspondents saw hundreds of the villagers filing in and out of the mansion daily, either to pay homage, or seek for favour.

“Everyone around Ajikobi and its environs loves Saraki. In short, they will support him till death. They can never support or follow any party except his party,” A PDP chieftain who pleaded anonymity told Post-Nigeria.

When asked if they are okay with his performance, he said:  “well, the people are not complaining, just that he has not brought any development to the State, since he became a Senator. Can’t you see the level of development in Ilorin?”

Asked why he was stoned at the Mosque sometime ago, the source added: “We the Ilorin people don’t fight. We don’t like trouble. But anti-party activities and division along party lines caused it. And you can see how we are suffering for it now”.

Recall, that an official of the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, Peter Danladi, a few months ago had alleged that Saraki who held sway as the two-term Governor of Kwara State, abused his office, and was involved in various acts of corruption.

However, Saraki had consistently denied all allegations of corruption levelled against him, describing them as, ‘political persecution’.
