The investigation into ‎allegations of fraud allegedly committed by the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, during his tenure as Governor of Akwa-Ibom between 2003 and 2011 has been questioned with a call for the sack of the Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde.

Abuja-based lawyer, Leo Ekpeyong, who petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, ‎on the allegations, on Monday addressed a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, asking that Lamorde be relieved of his duty for lack of transparency.

Akpabio was allegedly arrested by the anti-graft agency over corruption allegations and fraud which was said to have occurred during his time as Governor.

EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren in a statement said Akpabio was allowed to go home at about 11.45 pm after series of interrogation.

His petitioner is specifically accusing him of “stealing” N108.1 billion of Akwa Ibom State funds.

Expressing his discontent in a letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, the petitioner questioned the style of investigation and called for Lamorde to be relieved of his duty over lack of transparency.

“We make bold to pass a vote of no confidence on the leadership of the EFCC. Ibrahim Lamorde must resign now to pave way for an efficient but effective and courageous, incorruptible leadership,” he stated.

Ekpenyong said he was not satisfied with the investigation processes carried out by the commission into issues raised in the petition.

Earlier, at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, October 18, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisah Metuh said the anti-corruption crusade by Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, had shown that it was an orchestrated plan targeted at PDP and its former Governors.

He said while PDP Governors were being arrested and questioned by the Economic Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, Former APC Governors who have been accused of corruption were being nominated as Ministers.
