UNDERGROUND FEAST EVENTS SPILL OVER PORTLAND WITH MOVIE SCREENINGS, HAPPY HOURS, DINNERS, BRUNCHES AND SPECIAL MENU ITEMS
Local and visiting chefs get in on the action of celebrating Oregon’s vibrant food and drink community with pop up events throughout the festival weekend

Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon hosts special screening of A Place at the Table and Share Our Strength honors Hunger Action Month by encouraging Feast participants and guests to Go Orange

PORTLAND, ORE. – Sept. 6, 2013 – The knives are being sharpened, the glassware is being shined and the rest of the finishing touches are being placed on what promises to be four days to remember during Bon Appétit Presents: Feast Portland: A Celebration of Oregon Bounty. During the few days left before the festivities, it’s time to put together a killer itinerary for the weekend. In addition to Feast’s full schedule of more than 40 events showcasing local and national culinary talent and Pacific Northwest ingredients; pop up parties from folks like the notorious Shake Shack, brunches, dinner collaborations by the likes of Jenn Louis, Paul Qui and Nicole Krasinski and Stuart Brioza and specials are in the works throughout the city and open to the public. Also, charity partners Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon and Share Our Strength, are both sponsoring events to give an inside look at the state of hunger in Oregon, which Feast hopes to help end by donating a significant portion of its profits towards ending childhood hunger in Oregon and around the country.

Feast’s founding philosophy of facilitating collaborations between local chefs and some of the world’s most renowned names as well as fresh faces has inspired chefs throughout the city to create “unofficial” Feast events on their own. Below is the initial listing of events and leading up to and throughout the festival new additions will be posted on www.littlegreenpickle.com and Twitter using the hashtag #feastpdx.

FEAST CHARITY PARTNER EVENTS

Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon Special Screening of A Place at the Table

WHAT:

This month as kids head back to school, a staggering 285,591 children (53 percent of all students in Oregon) will be counting on free and reduced price meals to make it through the school day. Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon works to ensure kids get connected to the healthy food they need to learn and grow. To help support their work and in preparation of Feast they are hosting a special screening of A Place at the Table. The movie shows how hunger poses serious economic, social and cultural implications for our nation, and that it could be solved once and for all, if the American public decides – as they have in the past – that making healthy food available and affordable is in the best interest of us all. This powerful documentary sheds light on the issue by weaving interviews with experts and advocate such as Jeff Bridges and chef Tom Colicchio with the intimate portraits of three people struggling with food insecurity.

“The film explains with devastating simplicity why so many go hungry in a country with more than enough food to go round.” — London Evening Standard

Come early to grab classic McMenamins food and drink. Share Our Strength Honors No Kid Hungry Awareness Month by Going Orange

WHAT:

One in five children in America is at risk of hunger. That’s 16 million kids who can’t always rely on getting the nutritious food they need to learn and grow. It doesn’t have to be that way. This September, Share Our Strength is building awareness about the crisis of hunger in America and drawing attention to the No Kid Hungry Solution.

This September we are asking our supporters, including the chefs participating in Feast, to Go Orange for No Kid Hungry.

How you can Go Orange for No Kid Hungry

Wear orange in public and work with your local community leaders to make an orange statement in a big way. We have had partners dye fountains orange, light up buildings orange, or decorate vehicles in orange.

Flip your Facebook and Twitter pages orange with our photos, widgets and other digital assets.

Share photos to raise awareness and show your support. #NoKidHungry

Make for yourself or share online our Cooking Matters ‘Orange’ recipes

Pledge to dine out for No Kid Hungry and enlist others to join you in the movement. Together we can end childhood hunger.
