If you wake up with whiplash tomorrow, blame Katy Perry. The “Dark Horse” singer shook pop music on Thursday night by dropping her new single “Rise” just minutes after Britney Spears released her own lead single.

“Rise” is a guaranteed chart-topper. The dark and demanding lead single from Katy Perry’s upcoming fourth studio album was produced by Max Martin and gives us chills. Listen on iTunes here.

“When the fire’s at my feet again, and the vultures all start circling. They’re whispering, ‘you’re out of time,’ but still I rise,” Katy sings on the track. “Don’t be surprised. I will still rise.”

Download “Rise” on iTunes and Apple Music here.

Katy Perry promised fans a darker side to the bubblegum songstress with her last album Prism but instead embodied a theme of light and love. Could K4 be the dark side she’s hinted at before?

With little information about her upcoming album, it’s impossible to say much. On another note, is it weird that Katy and Taylor Swift have this ongoing feud and Max Martin produced “Bad Blood”? Also, who’s single will win the charts: Katy’s or Britney’s?
