History

Tanzania has been a tourism center for more than 200 years! It all started when Europeans started visiting the land in search of ivory and gold in the early 1800s. Tanzania also made its presence known by becoming a part of a hunting niche market. However, only after the German colonialists formally established game reserves on the Tanzania mainland, did tourism really start in the country. Up to 1961, European tourists had unearthed many of the current tourist attractions such as the lakes Tanganyika and Victoria and Mount Kilimanjaro. After the 1960’s, the foundations of a tourism industry were laid and Tanzania hasn’t looked back since then. The industry sees a 10% increase per annum!
