Set to premiere this Sunday, December 6th at noon EST/PST on Nickelodeon is an all-new 3D CGI-animated action-sitcom series called, Miraculous™ Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. The series will feature 26 episodes that are created with girl empowerment in mind. With this latest movement that continues to grow daily in comic books, movies and toys, will now be found in a weekly TV series created for young girls.
Inspired by box office success female lead movies like Katniss from The Hunger Games and Elsa from Frozen, ZAG has created Ladybug to capture the rise of “girl power” in media. The charismatic young teen Marinette who magically transforms into the vivacious superhero known as Ladybug — protects of Paris and saves the day — using newly acquired superhero powers, mysterious lucky charms and the unique power of “creation.”
Together with her sidekick, Cat Noir, they fight crime and save the beautiful “City of Lights.” But there is a hidden twist to this duo, Ladybug and Cat Noir do not know each other’s true identities. As Marinette is unaware that, beneath the Cat Noir suit is Adrien, her secret school crush. Similarly, Adrien doesn’t know that “his” Ladybug is really just Marinette, the rather plain girl in his class.
Miraculous™ — which is owned and produced by ZAG, under its “Zag Heroez” umbrella — has already debuted in France and Korea, attaining consistent number one ratings across all kids shows week after week. New episode premieres will continue to roll-out globally, in 120+ markets worldwide over the next three months. The series is a global co-production, co-production among ZAG, Method Animation, Toei Animation and SamG, with the participation of TF1, Disney Channel EMEA, SK Broadband and AB droits audiovisuels.
For those that might be interested in any toy merchandise, Bandai is the company behind at least some action figures based on the series. If and when those show up in North America remains to be seen.
