2016-12-21

2016 has been a bumpy year for many of us – Brussels and many other cities in and outside Europe faced horrible terror attacks this year – and the latest one just devastated us in Berlin, where 12 people died in the attack of a Christmas market. A founding EU member state voted to leave the Union, and we lost a number of legendary musicians – from Lemmy Kilmister to Leonhard Cohen.

The dimension of each of these incidents hides our view on the good things that happened. The Brussels Schuman station is finally finished, and trains run to and from the airport. A huge achievement in the middle of the usual traffic chaos. The EU has swallowed the shock of Brexit to the extent that rational negotiations, hopefully to the benefit of all, can take place – and we are all still alive, albeit a bit shaky.

2017 will not be an easy year – the challenges ahead: Brexit negotiations, dealing with an erratic US president Donald Trump, the continuous fight against terror and most importantly, finding ways to connect to ordinary citizens and establishing the added value of a European Union in times where its support is crumbling on all ends.

Failing is not the issue – not getting back up is. The politjobs team wishes you a peaceful holiday season and a lot of strength to ensure that 2017 will become a successful year. We will take a break ourselves and will be back in the second week of January. As usual, find the latest jobs and more at politjobs.eu.

A merry Christmas and a happy new year!
