This year, the Alliance Française has chosen to celebrate the relationship between Francophone countries through the Art of Comics. The event, introduced by HE Philippe Roland, the Belgian Ambassador to Ireland, will highlight this renowned form of art with a presentation on the History of Belgian Comics by Tine Anthoni, Deputy Director and in charge of Education services at the Belgian Comic Strip Center (BCSC) in Bruxelles and the testimony of Kevin McSherry, an Irish artist/illustrator and former chairman of the Illustrators Guild of Ireland.
The Alliance Française is also proud to launch Les Belles Images du Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinée (The Beautiful Images of the Belgian Comic Strip Center), an exhibition created to celebrate the 25 years of this unique Art Centre in Europe. Many comic strip artists have indeed created images illustrating the BCSC or use the Center as the backdrop for comic strip adventures: this exhibition is a selection of those original works, testifying the outstanding creativity and talent of great popular artists and confirming the richness and diversity of this artform.
